Continuation of nostalgia reread. Admittedly, I think Scott grows a little more lenient with magic constraints with each subsequent book, but it was still nice to marinate in all of the lore this one packed into it. It’s a shame he only grazes the surface of immortals’ impact on and negligence towards the problems of the real world, because there could potentially be an even more significant weight afforded to the intricate lore he developed if it contended even remotely with colonialism, etc. That’s why Palamedes has always been one of my favorite characters coming out of this book - it’s interesting seeing someone still on the side of “good” challenge all that it is immortals do or don’t do for the benefit of or detriment to humanity.

I got this from the library yesterday and finished it this morning. The third book in the series and my favorite to date. It ends with a reveal that I did not see coming. Now I have to find the next book, which I'm not sure has been published yet.

Michael Scott writes teenagers very well. The twins emotions felt genuine and real (as they can in a YA fantasy novel) along with the aloofness of Nicholas Flammel and his plans. What did bother me a bit was the spit story from Perry and the others it felt like it should be a companion novel instead of with the book. I think it could have been how Scott chose to pace her narrative within the book. Overall I give it a 3.8 out of 5

yeah...I don't think I can finish this series. sophie and josh are supposed to be the center of focus but I find them annoyingly one-dimensional (and very dense). I'd prefer to read a whole book about Perenelle. Overall, it takes the author wayyy too long to develop the story line, the 3 books drag on with a whole lot of non-threatening, unexciting battles that all apparently happen in 2-3 days' time.

Another great continuation to the series and once again the return of the beloved characters. I love the story arc development and the twists and turns are kind of predictable but still works because it is so well-written. I love the character of King Gilgamesh in this book - a tragic but lovable character. I knocked off a star because I am beginning more and more to dislike Nicholas Flamel who is one of the main characters. For being centuries old, his vision is myopic and flawed. He is becoming a very unlikeable character.
