The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum is a wonderfully magical story with some dark and surprising moments. My nephew, for example, found it a little scary, but his curiosity was strong enough to make him want to read it (well, I read it for him)—before he watched Wicked. It's a fantastic world of imagination, though I’d suggest it for slightly older children to enjoy a fun and captivating adventure. (And yes, I made sure to let his mum know about Wicked—just doing my auntie duties!)

This book is so cute. I love the illustrations and the story is really fun. It’s really enjoyable to compare the story to the one in the movie or to the story of Wicked. If you haven’t already, definitely read it.

i am surprised at the number of differences from the movie. it was a pleasant book - although not as G rated as i was expecting. some of the story lines seemed very short and straightforward. many parts would have been drawn out a lot more if it was written more recently. overall a very pleasant read
