I picked this book for book club and I’m so glad I did! I loved the plot, the imagery of the monsters, the on the nose metaphors, the culture, and the history. The only thing keeping me from giving it five stars was the formatting. I feel this would have read better as a longer novel. A lot was packed into this book! I would even go as far as saying this would be better as a graphic novel (and I’m not a graphic novel person!)

Ring Shout was a short read that blended horror with some historical facts in an interesting way. I liked the creative twist of expanding the existing Ku Klux Klan into something more monstrous, which added a unique layer to the story. While the concept was compelling, I wished there had been more time to develop the plot and characters fully. Still, it was an imaginative take on history and horror.
