Just incredible. I have never highlighted so many sentences in a novel. I’m really quite melancholy to have finally finished it. It gave me a month of excitement, joy & wisdom. Travel well, Edmond and co.
‘I am suffering less, because I have less strength in me to suffer. At your age, you have faith in life; it is a privilege of youth to believe and to hope. But old men see death more clearly.’

This was so satisfying and surprisingly entertaining, considering its length and the fact that revenge plots don't usually appeal to me much. Some subplots and characters were definitely lacking and made the pace drag at times (like the parts in Rome), I very much did not enjoy how anything to do with Haidee was handled. But despite the length, large amount of characters and subplots, Dumas managed to keep me engaged throughout the whole thing. Tension and satisfaction are words that describe this reading experience to me. I loved Edmond as a character and was honestly completely on his side for most of this novel. (maybe I even want to be like him a little bit, who doesn't love a very capable man who also happens to be extremely rich) I enjoyed the exploration of ideas about fate, faith, free will, hope and despair as well.

Simply iconic. Such a brilliantly put-together story. The first 300 pages especially are absolutely incredible, and the ending does get you a bit emotional.
I’ll admit it does drag a tad in the middle, and if it was presented as a full novel now, it would undoubtedly be cut down a bit, but it doesn’t really matter. The core of the story is genius.
Managed to bash through the whole thing in a week by the pool. Not sure I’d have enjoyed it as much over 6 weeks during the commute.

I genuinely think this is the best book I've ever read. I am speechless.
