The kids were big fan favorites of the Oompa Loompa songs, of course. And are now very intrigued by “prized chewing gum,” so, there’s that.

Also, incredibly interesting to hear Dahl’s take on television…especially since the book was optioned into a movie!

If you have kids and they haven't read this book yet, you're doing it wrong.

I have seen Tim Burton's movie multiple times, but this is the first time I read the book.

The children who enter the Chocolate Factory with Charlie are the perfect reflection of their parents' negligence.

The author often uses sarcasm to highlight these bad behaviours.

Augustus Gloop is a fat boy, he doesn't ever stop eating, and their parents do not even try to make him stop.

Violetta Beraugrade always chews gum, and she even uses the same one for days. We all agree that constantly chewing gum isn't a very healthy and polite thing to do. But once again nobody tells her to stop.

Veruca Salt is a rich and vitiated little girl, who starts screaming when she doesn't get what she wants.

Mike Tivù is addicted to tv and video games.

The thing is that these are the victims, the children whose parents don't care enough about to take the time to educate them. It's much easier to let them do what they want than hearing them yelling and crying. Charlie ends up being the lucky boy, who is poor but is loved by a caring family.

In the Chocolate Factory everyone gets what he deserves.
