This was an easy-to-read book. It also made me hungry while reading it! I liked that the chapters were short. It seems like I read faster if the chapters are short. :) When I picked up the book, I didn't know what to expect. I thought it would be weird and dark but it wasn't like that at all. Yes, it was very fantastical, but not supernatural. I love that some great candy like Nerds, SweeTarts, Gobstoppers, Sprees, etc. came from this book.

My 7 yr old wants to give this 5 stars. She absolutely loved it and couldn't wait for reading time every day so we could find out what happened next. She even begged to extend our scheduled reading time as much as possible.

I never read Roald Dahl as a kid, so without the nostalgia, I’m just not enjoying his books. The characters feel annoying and even creepy. I get they’re for kids, but I expected a timeless quality. Sadly, they just don’t hold up for me.
