A fun classic, although I find it tricky to do the voices for the oompa loompa songs. Audrey loved this book and carried it around the house asking for more chapters even though it was officially a bedtime book. She was so excited when Charlie got the Golden Ticket that she gasped and clapped. That makes the book even better.

Wonderful book! A bit confusing for me as a child, though.

2/5 of the lessons we’re supposed to learn from this book are 1) don’t be fat and 2) don’t chew gum. 1/5 of the lessons is don’t watch tv kids, read instead. Mind you, the audience is kids who read. Perhaps it’s meant to encourage them to continue doing so. Perhaps I’m a 24-year-old harshly judging a kid’s book.

Still so magical, quirky, funny, amazing…

"But it does have in it a very small amount of the rarest and most magical vitamin of them all—vitamin Wonka."
"And what will that do to him?" asked Mr. Teavee anxiously.
"It’ll make his toes grow out until they’re as long as his fingers..."
"Oh, no!" cried Mrs. Teavee.
"Don’t be silly," said Mr. Wonka. "It’s most useful. He’ll be able to play the piano with his feet."

Kids' books don't get much better. My 6-year old loved it. It was great to read it after having seen both film adaptations, as we could discuss the sorts of choices that go into turning a book into a movie. Dahl's writing is wonderful. It's a pleasure to read.

Simply wonderful in the truest sense of the word. Dahl does not just write for children, he writes with the imagination that a child has. That is one of the hardest things to capture as an adult. Bravo.

I can't believe I never realized how creepy this book is when I was younger.
