Dead Poets Society (1989) is my all-time favourite movie, so it was a given that I, as a reader, would eventually pick up the book based on it. However, I was severely disappointed by this book's writing, characterization and overall vibe. The writing felt choppy, the characters were much meaner and I didn't get that magical feeling I got from the movie whenever I re-watched it.

It also focused far too much on my least favourite part of an otherwise, in my opinion, perfect movie; Knox and Chris. I didn't think Knox could get creepier but this book proved me wrong.

(And the scene with the projector as they were doing their pop quiz, was just straight-up awful)

If this were my introduction to the story, I never would've given the movie a chance. The movie is better in all regards.

The only reason I'm giving this book three stars is that it still had some of the quotes I love so much.

If you're a fan of the movie and thinking of reading this book, I advice against it. Instead, go to Archive of Our Own (ao3) or Wattpad and read the fanworks. I promise you they have much more soul and heart put into them than this book. Reading this made me wonder if the author even cared about the story he was telling, or if he just did it for cash.

I did however like that the deleted scenes were included within the text. That was a nice addition :)

I really liked the setting but the story felt a little underdeveloped and the writing a bit choppy
