I love this story so much but the graphic audio's mmc narration didn't quite live up to the "mad rogan" expectation

Okay so here's the thing. I'm obsessed. I'm writing this review after finishing the third book. I don't want to read anything but this series. It's great, everything I ever wanted (except the cover because tbh what the f is that). I found this series through someone on Instagram who was recommending paranormal romances and she mentioned the Hollows by Kim Harrison and the Night Huntress by Janine Frost, so I knew she had taste. This was the only book from Ilona Andrews I could find at B&N so I gave it a shot. (This was another attempt at bringing me out of my Sookie Stackhouse depression). Coincidentally, one of my favorite booktockers had just started reading it when I had, so I guess it was meant to be.

What can I say? the vibes are immaculate. Who doesn't love a good private investigator moment, especially with magic? Its perfection. Seriously, don't get me started on this book/series, don't text me, ask me in person, comment on this review, or you will be bombarded with my obsession. Anyways, read it, you'll like it.

As I’ve already read the story and absolutely love it, I’m just going to review this as a Graphic Audio.

This was a fun listen, but there were a few noticeable little gripes I had.
For one, I enjoyed Nevada’s voice enough, but I sometimes found that the voice actress was laying it on a little thick and overacting. It took me out of a few of the more serious moments, though usually only for a short time.

Now, Rogan’s voice wasn’t a great match, in my opinion. He wasn’t gruff enough, not authoritative. I almost thought he sounded a little too smooth, and that the voice actor would have been a better fit for Augustine.

And Augustine himself sounded far too feeble and old, as opposed to someone who’s supposed to be Rogan’s age mate.

The rest of the cast was great and enjoyable to listen to. I loved hearing the banter between Nevada and Rogan and hearing their little interactions come to life.

Though I did find the more sexy moments a little awkward to listen to, because the voice actress was, once again, overacting a lot. I mean, sensual moments are generally quite awkward in graphic audios, but I found it a little more awkward than usual compared to other productions, because there was a certain amount of breathiness… that was just a lot.

But again, I still had a great time listening to the story that I already enjoy so much, so I’m definitely going to listen to the other installments when they’re released!
