So, it's not as good as I was hoping it would be (based on the crazy amount of people I read that were praising it), but it's not horrible either. It has plot holes, loose ends (but it IS a trilogy so those can still be addressed in later books), limited world-building, insta-lust (on the FMC's end), 1st Person POV (FMC), and a repetitive and uninspiring plot. But I do like the intriguing magic system! Sadly, I DID at least expect the characters and romance to have depth and be swoon-worthy, but I am left highly disappointed in these vital areas.
I like the first half of this book better than the last, mostly because the story ridiculously shifts to heavily focus on Nevada's lust working on overdrive for a man who doesn't respect her, kidnapped her, tortured her, and threatened to kill her mother (and yes, she is still attracted to him even as he's torturing her🤦🏻♀️). In short: Nevada is a huge disappointment, and it's difficult to want to read a book with her as the narrator.🙄👎🏻 Also, Connor “Mad" Rogan is grossly toxic and NOT good book-boyfriend material, so the “romance" is almost non-existent and not worth cheering for. I just don't care for these two at all—individually or as a couple.🥱👎🏻
And Grandma Frida? I found her to be annoying and tacky.🙄 All the minor characters felt bland and one-dimensional. Although, I didn't mind Bern so much, or Augustine. Penelope is okay, too.

I loved beginning a series that immediately lives up to its promise. "Burn for Me" introduces Nevada Baylor, a resourceful private investigator and a family to match. Her mother and grandmother, in particular, steal every scene with their humour (and violence). When a dangerously powerful fire-wielding wizard emerges, Nevada’s small PI agency is thrust into the hunt. Though she’d rather go it alone, she is teamed up with "Mad" Rogan, who knows Nevada is his best bet to stop him.
