A fun romp, fairly predictable but well written and enjoyable. Would have liked it more if the twist hadn’t been apparent so early.

Picked slow pace cause I saw that plot twist coming  a mile away and suffered through the rest of the book waiting for the reveal.

Ngl it became a little annoying. We are in the mind of the protagonist the whole fucking time and she's just so incessantly annoying. I get that that's kinda the point. She's an unreliable narrator. I don't really like unreliable narrators so it basically wasn't for me. I was intrigued by the complex sibling relationship so I found the twist lackluster. I don't think it's a bad book, but I'm personally glad it was a short one.

Nell is a sad nobody without any friends who hides her body in wide sweaters. She lives in a small apartment in the bad part of town with her beloved brother Barrett, the only person she has, the person she has a very unhealthy relationship with because of what happened...
because of what their parents did. And when a girl at her work place dies and a killer is on the loose she has to confront her inner demons.

This book is very interesting to me. Even though it's short, it's quite slow paced because we discover the psychological world of the main character more than actual events.

SPOILERS: The moment her brothers accident was mentioned, I knew that he was dead. I mean the author gave so many hints that I'm not even sure if it was planned to be a big twist. I didn't mind knowing that relatively at the start because it gave is time to learn about Nells psychological state. The trauma in her childhood and how it manifested in her everyday life, how all this shame that her mother taught her made Nell so vulnerable and dangerous at the same time. Her sudden aggressive outbursts were terrifying to me. And it was equally sad how one part of her really tried to be normal and to make friends. She was in far too deep to get out of this trauma alone but she didn't know enough about her trauma to request the right kind of help.
