☆꧁“My light died a long time ago—flickering with the many exhales of disapproval until finally,
with one big breath, it was blown completely out. Like a withering candle left out in the cold, surely
to hush and diminish as expected.”꧂☆
I want to preface this by saying that K.M. Moronova is one of my all-time favorite authors and I love her work. I fell in love with her writing style with The Fabric of Our Souls.
However, this one did not hit me nearly as hard as the first book.
I thought the story was sweet and did have those dark tones that Moronova is known for. The romance was there, the emotional connection was there, and the mental health awareness was there.
What was not there was the magic of the first book.
There were definitely moments that made me tear up, moments that I found myself closing my eyes and realizing these characters know what I feel in my soul.
However, there were also moments of boredom and wondering when something would happen next. Wondering what the point of this is. I feel that this would have perhaps been better as a novella and not a full novel.
Even with this I am in awe of Moronova and how she can weave a story together and make me forget that I am in fact not in that world.
I feel everything she writes; she pours her soul into each character.
Thank you so much K.M. Moronova for writing Langston's happy ending because he deserves it, and adding the epilogue in with Wynn was everything I could have asked for.
