Greaney was on target for a lot in this book. Gray Man Court Gentry is a good character with amazing tactical skills, resourcefulness and semblance of a moral code despite being a killer of men. Gentry recognizes some internal demons and overcomes obstacles. This was 3 to 3.5 star book for me because Greaney was off target in a couple places where the book dragged at times, he skipped critical sequences and he could tell the same story with more punch in 100 fewer pages.
Very similar to the last book. There wasn't a dull movement. I just seldom felt that anything was at risk. Although I didn't love this book, I think I will give the next one a try.
I really dig the Gray Man. There were some lines and actions in this book by the Gray Man that rival some of the best Mitch Rapp lines and scenes. I'll definitely be working my way through the rest of this series. Also, the narrator for these audio books is fantastic. He gets the character and has no problem switching accents etc which is important in the genre of international espionage thrillers.
As for this specific book I enjoyed the action and the tension, but to be honest there were some plot elements that almost kept it from being a 4 star book. The female character from the ICC that Court journeys with for awhile added nothing to the story for me other than being somewhat annoying. Also, the ending and climax weren't as well constructed as they should be. It's hard to say why without spoilers, but I don't understand having a character make an important choice if ultimately that choice doesn't matter. Overall though I really enjoyed this book and the series.

Eh, didn't love this one. For one thing, I'm not wild about the CIA team-up hoo-rah macho boy squad thing. It's just boring, and all the Sierra guys are just dull. I couldn't care less about Zach, and I have no idea why Gentry does.
Like, it's never really explained or gone into at all why he saves him on the ship when he's just being a prick the whole time and he ruined his whole plan. Like, it's just a weird turn of events that doesn't seem to jive with his personality up to that point. And I hate, HATE when they have the main character go off the rails. I hated it in Law and Order CI when they did it to Det. Goren, and I hate it here where he gives Gentry an opiate addiction. What more boring, mundane, annoying tragic flaw is there than giving a contract killer a drug addiction? I. Could. Not. Care. Less. I just hope he kicks it before the next book or I'll lose what interest I have left in the series.
I like about half the books in this series. This one was just bad and I couldn't finish it. I dnf'd at about 30% due to bad writing.
Spoilers ahead:
So the story is Gentry has to go to the Sudan (or Somalia?) to kidnap their PM (Abboud) on behalf of the CIA while pretending to go there to kill him for Sidorenko (his Russian boss/handler). While landed in the airport, he tries to get a nosey Canadian stopped from looking at their cargo, she is instead taken by the Sudan secret police. So he decides to save her.
Here is where it goes wrong for me. Gentry supposedly siphons a few gallons of gas into an open bucket and drives a scooter cab with it between his knees. Later on he lights a flare and waves it around. First of all, most of the gas would have sloshed out during the ride on the cab. Secondly, YouTube videos have taught me that gas vaporizes easily (especially in that hot Sudanese weather). Lighting a match would have caused the gas in the bucket and gas vapor in the air to combust immediately. I usually have to suspend belief when reading about a single man shooting and killing dozens but this writing about the gas is too stupid.
Worse comes later on. The woman's behavior is just stupid and unbelievable and I had to stop reading when after and during the night in Sudan in a car with all the windows rolled up and little water, they are able to chat and talk like they were in a cafe in Paris.
At about 30% I was no longer interested in what happened to either one of them. There was too much dialog that didn't go anywhere and frankly the writing was just bad.

It's been awhile since I read the first book so I was a little lost at the start. But overall it was an interesting book. It had some interesting twists and turns and kept me entertained.
