I've cried countless of times during the book. Having an bully experience on paper is quite tragic
But the writing is beautiful and not too complex to read.

Before I read this, I just finished a book about how a psychopath unravels his killings. That's why when I was at the part where it was revealed that Yunjae has a brain condition that makes it difficult for him to feel emotion, I thought that this book is just another psychopath/villain story. I am happy that I was wrong.
Yunjae and Gon's friendship is something I didn't predict and their story is well written and tied up perfectly.
Here are my favorite lines in the book;
"I thought of books by Goethe and Shakespeare, whose characters often resorted to death in their desperate search for love. I thought of the people I saw on the news who were obsessed with and even abusive to their loved ones because they thought they weren’t loved anymore. I also thought of the stories of people who forgave the unforgivable after hearing just three words: “I love you.”"
"At last, I became a human. And at that very moment, the world was drifting far away from me. In fact, this is the end of my story."
And of course this one as well from the Author's note:
"I know this may be a clichéd conclusion to draw. But I have come to think that love is what makes a person human, as well as what makes a monster. That’s the story I wanted to tell."
I also like how the author was able to show us Yunjae's condition, the exploration of emotion and how he try to perceive things that is beyond his emotional understanding.

It is about a boy with Alexithymia - inability to identify and express one's feelings. Constantly being called a monster, he meets another monster - a boy who spend his childhood going in and out of juvenile detention. But slowly the boy started feeling. This book is basically about "unconditional love" - would parents be able to unconditionally love their child however they look like or however they grow up as.
