„Герои“ е един от самостоятелните романи на Джо Абъркромби. Въпреки това е доста препоръчително да сте запознати с историята в книгите за „Първият закон“, тъй като доста стари герои се завръщат. Някои, от които бяха пренебрегнати в тези книги или поне не бяха толкова важни за тогавашната история. Време е те да получат своята сцена. А заедно с тях и нови такива, не по-малко атрактивни.
Всеки, който поне веднъж се е срещал с циничният стил на Принцът на гримдарка, се досеща, че това не е просто обикновено героично фентъзи за война, чест и смели мъже…(па и жени). Би било много нереалистично да се каже такова нещо за персонажите, които Абъркромби ни поднася всеки път. Ако има някой, който да смаже романтичната идея за смелият смел герой, то това е той. При това само с думите: „обратно в пръстта“.
Историята проследява живота на няколко души от двете враждуващи страни- Севера и Юга (Съюза)в рамките на 4-5 дни. Основна тема е предстояща „епична“ битка за… един хълм! Хълм наречен „Героите“. Всяка от страните го иска главно, защото другата страна го иска.

With every Abercrombie book I fall more in love with his writing, his world and most of all, his characters. This book being set in the north was a huge bonus as it was my favourite setting in the original trilogy. Their code of "honour", their social constructs and their survivalist mentality make for very interesting people to read. The three POV's recurring from the original books were very surprising. None of these characters were ones I was craving more content of and yet they were brilliant perspectives both from the narrative but also to see the flip side of the coin baring in mind the previous outlook we had on them is from other characters perceptions of them. It was very insightful being in their heads. The new character (though related to known characters) Finree was an awesome addition to the book and provided an almost realistic (given the circumstances) outlook on the world which I very much enjoyed reading. Overall another excellent book from and incredible author.
