I liked Michael and Naomi immediately and loved their story. They’re both vulnerable because of their family histories and their lives have lots of complications but they’re perfect together from the moment they meet. Michael can’t hide his attraction even though he knows it’s a bad idea to date the boss’ daughter. The feeling is mutual but Naomi doesn’t date hockey players because she blames the sport for destroying her family and taking her father away, so she fights it.

They form a bond right away and it grows each time they interact, which scares them both but they can’t deny their feelings forever. They’re both dealing with weighty issues in their lives but when they’re together, they can both relax and be real. Michael inspires her to repair her relationship with the twin sister she’s at odds with, so he’s changing her life for the better. She’s someone he wants to be with at all times because he’s been lonely in the Midwest, so far from the family, friends and life he had on the east coast.

The chemistry between them is insane but this is a slow burn, so the tension is high when it finally happens. Michael is sweet, funny and he loves to take care of her which is especially important because her family seems to have abandoned her. Naomi is whip smart, clumsy and adorable. She’s a bit shy with him at first so I liked seeing her get more comfortable and really opening up to him. I couldn’t get enough Naomi and Michael. I really enjoyed their story and will probably read it again sometime.

Naomi and Michael’s friends to lovers story was sweet, funny, and heart wrenching. I love a good raw emotional read. Naomi was relatable and I enjoyed all of her awkward moments. Michael is swoon worthy. A sexy reformed player with a genuine heart. This was my first time reading this author and it won’t be my last.

I really enjoyed this book! It was a great start to a new series and definitely made me want to read the next books. I loved Michael and Naomi. I loved their friendship and how they were kind of opposites. If you are looking for a fairly low angst new adult romance, I recommend this one.

A romance book that has mostly clear lines of communication between the couple. And the male MC is completely in touch with his feelings and has gone to therapy! More like this please!!

there was almost no drama, I was getting bored

Book number one in the series but I think I read it fourth overall?? Naomi’s struggles and seeing her overcome them was a big highlight for me, but honestly I think that seeing them both grow together as a couple was the most exciting thing for me. I think books 2 and 3 were better though.

Spice:

This was a good book. I really loved Michael. I'm not sure how I felt about Naomi. Most of the time I liked her, but she had a lot of insecurities that lasted most of the book.

Michael and Naomi had really good chemistry. Michael helped Naomi step out of her comfort zone a lot when she was dealing with her sister and dad. The banter between these two was great.

This is a friends-to-lovers but also definitely a slow burn.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

4 Stars!

POV: Dual (1st Person)
Tropes: Coach's daughter, Sports romance, Friends-to-lovers
Triggers: Bereavement

Likes: Michael was such a sweetie, even with how much he was dealing with internally. It was great to read their journey from friends, to lovers, to finally get their happily ever after.

Dislikes: It was a bit too slow burn for me. It kind of felt like the majority of the book was regarding the issues around her relationship with her dad. And also how she was repeatedly referred to as the 'ugly sister'.

Synopsis: The Puck Drop follows Naomi, who's always hidden in the shadow of her glamorous social butterfly twin sister. Not only with her peers, but also her father. So when she spots the chance to work for him, it gives her the perfect opportunity to put her statistical brain in gear, whilst also spending time with him. Sounds perfect right? What she didn't plan on was a huge distraction in the form of new intern coach Michael. However he also needs to keep his head on straight, after losing his parents and chance to play professionally, this coaching internship is his last chance to be near the sport he loves.

Will these two risk it all to be more than friends? Or will their own internal struggles tear them apart? A great read!
