welll whats a girl to say i absolutely love Rebecca’s books. she never disappoints and this book is not an exception. I love her common themes in her books, the divine, love, forgiveness and family. Things that I care the most about perhaps why i like her books and her content.

I still think that Elements of cadence is the best series but thats a personal opinion, this book was splendid. I especially love that she knows how to wrap up her stories and still have you craving more.. like you feel like nooo i wanted to spend a little bit more time with them now that theres no tension. makes me want to pay rebecca so that she can write their romance love story.

I think what i love about the love that she writes, is its a practical subtle love. she doesnt overdo it. she lets their actions show how much they care for each other and to me thats more impactful than sex scenes or like drama. Well i do enjoy both but you know.. do not sacrifice one for the other.. and she does it so wonderfully.

The story takes place with two sisters: Evadyne and Halcyon. Halcyon is a warrior, a hoplite for the army in their world. She is expected to come home soon and so their family is prepping her return and making everything look splendid and lovely as it has been 8 years since she has been gone. When suddenly Halcyon appears to Eva and she is hiding.. a fugitive of sorts. And then we find out that she has committed a crime: murder of her own peer. The story then continues where she is given a trial of 15 years- 5 for murder, 5 for cowardice and 5 for treason or treachery if im not mistaken. Eva volunteers to take half of that and its granted.. Throughout the story theres secrets and elements to it that make this story so poignant and wonderful. Which is expected of Ross’s writing.

its funny I always hesitate to read her stories because she has so many emotional aspects and high stakes that i get nervous but when im reading im engrossed and forget all about it. And when I finish oh lordie even worse because now i want to stay in the story hehe.

All is to say she’s my favorite author thus far. Love her works, i still have to read three more books but im sure I will love those as well.

My biggest problem was pacing everything was rushed. Halycon was best character and liked siblings relationship, romance was background.
Would read second book but it's standalone.

When I saw this book, I was drawn to the cover and title, not knowing what it was about. I figured it was a fantasy book and that it had to do with fighting, but that’s all I knew. Once I started reading, I didn’t want to stop. It had fighting, growth, challenge, courage, ect. It was a fun read and it even had a little romance sprinkled in. I really enjoyed this book, and partly wished it has a sequel. I want more Evadne and Damon, especially after everything they went through. It’s a great standalone book, but maybe I’m just selfish and want more. I highly recommend this to fantasy lovers who also enjoy good sword fighting.
