A re-read a long time after the first time I read it. It was a little disappointing, I remember it being this truly brilliant thing, and it's.. just good. I read it when I was like 12, though, so I feel like this is an okay thing.

I'm part of the group that prefers Ender's Game to Speaker for the Dead. These books are only linked by one character. The story is completely different and unrelated. I mentioned this in my last review, but since purchasing these books I've realised that Orson Scott Card is a bit dodgy so I won't be purchasing any more.

I didn't realize that Card had this in him. Engaging, gripping, far more interesting than Ender's Game. Deals with religion and mysticism without delving into Dune-like indulgence. The science and biology is incredibly fascinating and creative, and the Speaking for the Dead as a reconciliation is a cathartic concept. An unexpected triumph of creativity, science, and insight.

For some reason, I'm surprised by just how much I liked this book. Maybe it's because it's so hard for sequels to live up to originals. But this book was really hard to put down.
