A very singular graphic novel about experiencing a medical catastrophe and the process of building a good life afterwards. This book contained some of the most raw, emotional autoniographical comics I've ever seen. The author composed parts of the book while loosing her sight, and the frantic rage she experienced comes across vividly. While I expected to learn a lot about the author's medical experiences, I was more surprised about the relationships portrayed. This is not a narrative where friends step up and go the distance to help someone in need. It's more a story of profound disappointment and loneliness, a parallel to the physical loss the author experiences.

This book was so beautiful! I loved the art in it and the way the art and narrative interacted to tell the story throughout was so beautiful. A tear jerker in the best way :,)

So good! I was a little confused about Seth/Michael and not sure I followed the relationship pattern completely and that’s really the main reason I knocked a star off the rating. Fast and amazing read with interesting graphic style.

I think this book showed up on a list of best graphic novels from 2020 and I am glad I checked this out from the local library.
It is not the artwork that stands out in this book, it is the story of the author , Vivian Chong that is remarkable. How she turned her life around after TEN, and lives a productive life now is an inspiration for anyone and a lesson in showing gratitude towards everything we currently have.
Must read for inspiration purposes!

This book was an incredible work of memoir. It was very difficult to read as Chong's experiences were so difficult at the beginning. It was especially heart breaking to see some of the betrayals, coldness, and ableism she encountered. It is a very profound story about art and the creative process and the journey to independence. It is a necessary work.
