Another great thriller from Sandra Brown!

Sandra Brown is always worth reading. I think I would have enjoyed this book more if there weren't so many unnecessary characters. Also, I had to renew it from the online library several times before I completed it. I was repeatedly on wait lists, which likely caused me to lose some interest in the storyline.

The intensity of this book is good. What a pageturner! It's very well-paced and Sandra Brown keeps you wondering who is really behind it all. It seems that everyone has the potential motive, drive, or desire in some form or another. That's how a suspenseful mystery book should be!

While I don't like the foul language, the dialogue is more than just good. It's intense. The stakes are high and it's anyone's guess who is behind it and how it will go down in the end.

The attraction between the Texas Ranger and the judge is undeniable. Holly comes across as this good girl who tells the truth no matter what, but deep down inside, she's a human being with needs, wants, and desires, just like the rest of us. But she's also aware that there are consequences for her actions and her evergrowing attraction to Crawford may have undesirable consequences for her career and her future as a whole. It's also fair to say that Crawford's attraction to Holly may end whatever little chance he has of regaining custody of his daughter.

Please note that sexual references/sex scenes are explicit--so explicit that your grandmother would blush. If you don't like that, this book isn't for you. I don't care for it either, but it's a book club book, so I had to do the best I could to read it and enjoy the rest of it.

If the sex and language had been eliminated, I'd be giving this book five stars and a wonderful round of applause!

3.5 - another good Sandra Brown novel: it delivers what it promises!

Started off strong, which is why I kept listening. But it got convoluted and none of the characters drew me in. I never quite understood why the target was the target. It was explained, but the explanation was weak for a murder.

The romance/sex scenes were cringe worthy. I felt bad for the narrator who had to read them out loud. I know in real life women, even smart women, make bad choices in men, but some of the scenes almost approached being non-consensual, which didn't thrill me. I didn't want the little girl, Georgia, to end up with either her father or her grandfather since both seemed like macho men who wouldn't be the greatest role models. Also, it seemed unrealistic that Georgia didn't have more attachment to her grandparents since they were the ones that raised her.
Spoiler At least in the end the grandparents got to see her every day, but it seems joint custody might have been the best for her since the two families lived near each other.

I would hope in real life long-time animosity wouldn't get in the way of a big case like it did in this book, but, unfortunately, that part is probably realistic. The parties' constant sniping at each other did not, though, at least in the professional setting. People would at least fake trying to get along more often.

I didn't understand why Holly came to this podunk town since it didn't sound like she grew up there. It was a chance for a judgeship, but since that was going up for a vote anyway, it seemed unlikely that she, as an outsider, would be able to stay on the bench.

Sandra Brown never disappoints.

Loved this action-packed story. The characters were fun to read and the stories had a few surprises in it
