we are reading this for class but i read ahead since gwendolyn brooks is so incredibly talented. i love her work so much and i think everyone should read at least a few pieces of her work because it’s truly phenomenal.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5. My favorites were the mother, The Lovers of the Poor, and We Real Cool (one of her most popular poems, of course). Her rhythm jumps off the page. I had to look up recordings of her readings on youtube and now I appreciate her talent even more. She's a new favorite of mine and I want to return to this again.
