A tour de force covering King’s life, speeches, philosophy, and faith through all of his years. This is a more honest and thorough portrait of the radical but imperfect prophet than almost any of us is taught these days. And we need to hear it unaltered, now more than ever.

Very informative! I did a combo of listening/reading the book and can say Jonathan Eig is a fantastic writer and the audible narrator was great. There are areas of the book where I think the author is a bit long winded but I would still recommend this book.

An incredible, in depth story of MLK Jr’s life. I really appreciated being able to get a glimpse of him as a human being along with a more in depth view of his radical, powerful leadership and life. We get a watered down version of this great man in schools and media, and this book combats that by painting his life and what he stood for and endured vividly.

A most awe inspiring biography. So well written, the words and facts and stories flow off the page. Such a complex man, a man of utter faith in God.

Wow. I feel this was pieced together in such a dynamic, unique way. Interviews with people close to him, online sources and FBI records all enriched the storytelling.

I really do find stories of groups organising for a cause so inspiring, but even more so when you think how much more difficult to do in an era before the internet.
This was really well laid out and took you on a journey.
One thing that struck me over and over is
A) how many people hail MLK Jr as a pacifist when it is clearly recorded that later in his life, he acknowledged and championed violent resistance.
B) even if you want to ignore point A, when people sanitise his stance, I wish they'd remember that even when held up as a paradigm of peaceful resistance - they still murdered him.

I implore anyone who has a desire to understand MLK Jr. &/or the U.S.'s dark history with race to read this book. It is possibly one of the most well written biographies and historical books ever produced.
