The newest installment of Blue Devils Hockey is a delicious loathe to love you/brother's best friend book. I personally don't think this series gets talked about enough! Tropes include: he takes care of her, secret illness, and hidden love affair.
“The devastation I felt the day she turned me away sent me to the edge of insanity. Then she came back, and now I’m on edge whenever we’re not together.”
I was waiting for Kane’s book and I ate up all the banter, tension, and angst! Throw in brother’s best friend make me love it even more.
Kane and Daisy had a secret fling in high school. Kane left with a broken heart. Six years later Daisy moves to Chicago to stay with her brother. Unbeknownst to her Kane lives there as well. He actually lives in the same building. Kane is like a problem child. He’s still salty with Daisy after all this time. So what does he do? He wants to make her life miserable, so he plays pranks on her. The tension between builds until they just give in to the real feelings they have for each other. This reunion was inevitable.
We always love when the bad boy breaks and Sammi did a great job at it. Give me all the angst and I gobble it all up. The spice…. Kane and Daisy get very dirty. Let’s see what Sammi has up next for us.
Tropes: hockey, brother’s best friend, second chance-ish, enemies to lovers, hate to love, neighbors to lovers, workplace, close proximity, secret relationship, chronic illness.
THANK YOU SAMMI FOR THE ARC!

This was a great combo of enemies to lovers, second chance and brothers best friend. Daisy and Kane have a complicated history made more so by the lies they told each other in the past to protect themselves and each other. It was fun watching them spar, amusing banter and bets, challenging each other until neither could fight it anymore.
The hockey was fun, and I enjoyed the side characters. I hadn’t read the first two books in the series, but this worked well as a standalone and I don’t feel like I was missing anything. I will go back and read them because I enjoyed this one so much. Can’t wait to read Malaki and Reese’s book!
Thanks to Valentine PR and SJ Sylvis for the ARC!

I like this series! I don't recall getting any hints that these two would be the MCs for this one from the last book which is fine. I enjoyed their story a LOT! These two were toeing a FINE line between loathe and love for the marjotiy of this book. I liked how they needled at each other. They both liked getting a rise out of the other but also didn't want to acknowledge that internally. Kane had the whole touch her and die vibe down by like 10% haha. I loved that this was KIND of a second chance. Daisy is Kane's best friend's little sister. They crushed on each other in secret back when they were younger and after one night of passion Kane leaves at Daisy behest. I appreciated how these two slowly started peeling off their armor for each other. The loathing was there due to a misunderstanding. Kane didn't want to let anyone near his heart again because of Daisy. When he realized what she had done for him, it was touching. I also loved that our neandrathal of a hockey player had a true heart of gold. If you were in his inner circle, you were protected. I loved when he took care of Daisy and when he found out the illness she was struggling with- all pretenses were lost. These two were HOT together- their chemistry was on fire!
Daisy has found herself moving to Chicago to help get a better handle on her recent diagnosis. She is going to be living with her brother though for a minute which should help. What she doesn't expect though is Kane Barlow. The man who gave her everything she wanted back in high school the day before he had to leave to chase his dreams. The man she pushed away to help him. The man who can't stand her. How is this her luck? And now Kane has gotten her a job interview. One he clearly thinks she will walk away from- the mascot for his hockey team. Well if he thinks that of her, he doesn't remember her clearly. She NEVER backs down from a challenge. Which is how she finds herself around Kane all the time. There is this energy between them- she likes poking the bear and seeing how he will respond. She likes seeing that flare in his eyes. But then her lups kicks in and she finds herself being taken care of Kane. She gets to see another side of him. The side she remembered in high school which is when she realizes his attitude is all a facade. He is still the protector with a heart of gold on the inside. Now Daisy can't seem to stop thinking about Kane and all that they could be. What they experience together goes beyond what she has experienced before. The passion. The connection. She just has to decide if what they have is worth going to her brother for. Because he has made it clear that he would not approve of her and Kane in any world. But he doesn't know the Kane she does- so she will just have to show him what Kane means to her.
Kane has moved on from Daisy and that hurt he felt. He has never let another woman that close to him. Never given a woman the chance to hurt him again. But then Daisy is back and his neighbor. She somehow looks prettier than before. And he recognizes that she has become a woman in the time that has past since he last saw her. He knows he shouldn't poke at her but he can't help it. So he gets a job that should make her run to the hills. Send her away from him. But she digs her heels in and commits. She makes the mascot a role model for young girls. She makes the guys on his team get gushy. It seems that every man in her vicinity is drawn to her orbit. Well Kane isn't there...YET. He is fighting this thing between them because he knows how it will end. But then he gets the truth on why she let him down all those years ago and the truth on why she is here now. And his whole perspective changes. Daisy did all of that for HIM. For HIS future. She is going through this now and he would have never known if she hadn't had an episode. She is so strong and brave. He can't fight it anymore. He has to claim her and make it clear to everyone including her that she is HIS and he is HERS. He doesn't care what her brother thinks. He wants the whole world to know how he feels. He just hopes she is ready to admit her feelings too.
The chemistry and banter in this one was top notch! These two once they gave in could NOT keep their hands off of each other. I loved the way that Daisy's illness was part of the plot her. She didn't let it take over her whole life. She was so strong working through it all. I LOVED when Kane took care of her- ridiculously swoony. I also loved when he was warning all of the men to stay away from her. I loved the side characters and am looking forward to Malaki and Reese- I am thinking they are the next book! I definitely recommend this book for some fun pranks and edge of your seat question on WHEN are they going to give into this thing between them.

*Rush The Edge is book 3 in the Blue Devils Hockey series and is an interconnected standalone. While not necessary to read Play The Game (book 1) or Skate The Line (book 2), characters and history may make more sense*
Daisy would've never moved to Chicago with her brother if she'd known she would not only run into but live one floor under Kane Barlow. Chicago's hot-headed, playboy hockey player who's not only her brother's best friend but her childhood fling. With living and working so close to each other, will the tension push them away or pull them closer?
I'll say it everytime...Sammi is an autobuy author for me and what another amazing 5 star read! I didn't think an MMC would ever top Theo from Weakside, but every Blue Devil's MMC is slowly making me question who my favorite is. I absolutely loved the on page, inner thought of both characters as they fought their feelings for each other. Just when they'd start to act sweet, the fight would come back. Getting to slowly see their history unfold and them go back to being each others safe space was so sweet, and Kane was so spicy! I'm so looking forward to the characters in the next book!

Okay I’m gonna be honest, while I couldn’t put this down I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would. I just didn’t connect with the characters and wasn’t super invested in them.
I found the bullying to be a little too much at times. I also hate second chance romances that have miscommunication about tiny things that are easily resolved
Like it was fun to read, I enjoyed the banter between them and I loved that while he thought he hated her, he couldn’t stop thinking about her or wanting to protect her.
But if you enjoy the brother best friend/best friends sister, second chance romance with man obsessed then I definitely recommend.
