was it a literary masterpiece? no.
but i'm sad and i ate it up and i respect it for that.

  • hockey romance
  • forced proximity
  • childhood friends
  • hate to love
  • brother's best friend
  • its always been you

This story follows Daisy who moves in with her brother only to realize his best friend aka the guy she denied is right next door. I enjoyed this book and ate it up. I love the continuation of this hockey series and following the mysterious, dark Kane. I enjoyed the conflicts in this book as there is healing, heartbreak, and secrets being revealed. The pacing was great for this story and I loved the Chicago setting. This is dark so I recommend checking the TWs. This book is told from both Daisy and Kane’s pov.

Daisy moves in with her brother to start her life and I loved her character. She is strong, committed, and loves to help those around her. Then we have Kane who has secrets of his own and I just loved getting to discover who he is. He’s protective of Daisy and even with his horrible pranks, he knew when she needed him. There are many side characters but I enjoyed Malakai and Reese whose book I am excited for. The romance is brother’s best friend, enemies to lovers, and second chance. It’s steamy with lots of angst and bantering. I do wish we got to see more of the the MCs together as a couple because their relationship was so rushed after getting together.

The ending was great, and I loved finally seeing these two together. Now I am excited for book two because there is chemistry brewing throughout this book between Malakai and Reese which will have that single parent storyline. I can’t wait to see where Sylvis goes next with this series.

I loved that Kane didn't change for Daisy or become someone totally different. I've wanted to read his book ever since I got to know him and saw him teasing the others in their books, making jokes about stealing their girls. He was a little troublemaker, funny, and had such great charisma, I needed his story like yesterday. He's still a hotheaded, cocky hockey player, but he has a heart of gold and protects that heart fiercely after a heartbreak. As expected, everyone was on his case when they saw how much he wasn't indifferent to the new mascot.

And my sweet Daisy... she never backs down, and I love that about her. She's also not afraid to call Kane out on his behavior. They basically had a little secret thing when they were teenagers. Kane's best friend is Daisy's brother, and their family was the only one Kane had left. She broke his heart, but hers was left in pieces too. After years of not hearing from each other, they became neighbors and coworkers as well. Kane tries sooo hard to hate her, but she had his heart for such a long time, he can't fight his feelings. When he finally gives up the fight, he's so open about his intentions and feelings, ahh, I'm a total goner. She fears her brother would be against their relationship, but everything she ever did was led by her love for this man, so somehow, they have to make it work. They are so sweet together.

We also got to know who the next main characters will be, and oh boy, I already know I'm going to love that book, there's no question. The characters, the tropes, oh, it's going to be so much fun. It's an interconnected standalone, so you don't have to read in order. You can easily start with Kane and Daisy's book first.

It’s always a good time when an MC thinks he hates the FMC, when what he really hates is the fact that she’s not his. This is poor Kane, Blue Devils hockey teams f*ckboy. Now we find out that he did fall in love once, only to have his heart broken.
I loved the exchanges between Kane and Daisy. She gave as good as she got and I loved every hilarious moment of it. One thing I’ve discovered is the jealousy micro trope is a fav. Boy, does Kane get jealous. Really, all his stomping around, glaring at people and wanting to throw hands should have clued him in to his feelings. Also the comfort scenes when Daisy had a flare were so sweet.
Another great entry in the series.

Thank you to VPR and the author for the arc and this is my honest review.

SJ can give me ALL the brother’s best friend/best friend’s sister books she wants because this is a trope that she is absolutely amazing at.

Daisy broke Kane’s heart all those years ago. He wanted a relationship with her but he walked away from the whole situation feeling used. He may have moved on, but he never really got over it.

Daisy was just trying to protect herself in the long run. To say that they didn’t part on good terms would be an understatement. So when she moves in with her brother & finds out Kane is her new neighbor it seems like it couldn’t get any worse 😂

I love how they go from frenemies to lovers & all the pranks they played on each other. It made for some great banter between them & the tension just kept getting thicker until something had to give…and SJ’s books always have the best heat so when they finally gave in it was SOOO good.

I have loved every book she’s written so far, but these Blue Devil boys just might be my favorite (just don’t tell the Bexley U boys because they had that title first 😂)

I truly hope you are 𝐧𝐨𝐭 sitting on this series. Rhodes, Emery and now Kane are perfection.

Kane + Daisy grow up together with him being her brothers best friend. Reconnecting years later when Daisy has to move in with her brother due to some medical issues.

Kane hooks her up with a job and with there chemistry the first half of the book is the perfect balance of angst + throwing barbs.

I 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 the way we get so much back/forth + push/pull, but it’s so perfectly written that it leaves you eating it up.

And who doesn’t love it when the mmc pulls the “𝙸'𝚖 𝚘𝚋𝚜𝚎𝚜𝚜𝚎𝚍 𝚠𝚒𝚝𝚑 𝚢𝚘𝚞" + “𝙸'𝚟𝚎 𝚗𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝚕𝚘𝚟𝚎𝚍 𝚊𝚗𝚢𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚋𝚞𝚝 𝚑𝚎𝚛"🥰 "𝙸 𝚓𝚞𝚜𝚝 𝚠𝚊𝚗𝚝𝚎𝚍 𝚝𝚘 𝚛𝚎𝚖𝚒𝚗𝚍 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚢𝚘𝚞'𝚛𝚎 𝚖𝚒𝚗𝚎" moments!

Rush the Edge by SJ Sylvis is the third book in her Blue Devils Hockey series, is a captivating and heartfelt sports romance, with enemies-to-lovers and brothers best friend tropes.
This book centres around Daisy and Kane. Daisy relocates to Chicago, hoping to start fresh and moves in with her brother. Kane Barlow, the Blue Devils resident grump, is her brother's best friend, the boy she secretly had a fling with and now also her new neighbour.
Despite Kane's frosty demeanour, you could cut the tension between these two with a knife.  He is still resentful over what happened 6 years ago and doesn’t understand the reason Daisy has moved to Chicago.
Given Daisy extreme stubbornness and Kanes grumpy façade, the banter between them is quite entertaining.  SJ is an expert when it comes to witty banter and quick dialogue so despite the serious nature of some of the topics in the book, you do find yourself enjoying the commentary between the two.
It did take me minute to warm up to Kane, because his character was very standoffish, even toward his teammates. I had hoped to see more of the comradery we saw in the previous books, but we were fortunate enough to get small glimpses of past characters and I was ok with that.
The slow-burn certainly built the tension and their relationship felt authentic and natural. My attitude toward Kane changed the minute he found out why Daisy was in Chicago. His attitude changed and he became attentive and caring. I feel like Daisy bought out his softer side, so I am interested to see how his character develops over the coming books.
The additional sub-plots made for a story that was fast-paced and added depth. The realistic issues that the characters faced, allows the reader to relate to what they are going through. SJ handled these topics with grace and care.
What I enjoy about SJs books, is she blends Hockey with real life issues and that not only makes this a sports romance, but a story about second chances and understanding, it is a story about setting aside the small stuff and to care about what matters most.
This book had it all. Readers of Hockey romance will love the scorching chemistry, the angst and the witty narrative and will have a hard time putting this one down
emotional hopeful

Thank you @authorsjsylvis for an advance copy.

I devoured this book. Kane and Daisy had me hooked with their banter and undeniable chemistry. This story has sass, spice, and laugh out loud moments that had me giggling at my Kindle. Those mascot moments!!

Kane Barlow might be a broody, arrogant, pro-hockey playing menace, but watching him unravel around Daisy? Perfection! And Daisy? She’s the perfect blend of wit, vulnerability, and strength. Their love/hate dynamic had me flipping through those pages. I couldn’t get enough of the tension, the teasing, and the swoon-worthy moments.

The Blue Devils Hockey series is amazing, but this book? Probably my favorite. For now. I adored both Daisy and Kane! If you’re into second chances, forced proximity, and brother’s best friend drama with the perfect mix of angst and heat, definitely add this to your TBR.

This book sucked me in from the first pages and I couldn’t stop reading until the end. I adored Daisy and her tough as nails, I can do it myself, stubborn nature as she navigated learning to live with her autoimmune disease. She was so fierce and loyal and I loved that about her. Kane was also absolute perfection. He was the perfect amount of grumpy, closed off, and reserved until it came to loving Daisy and once he was all in…he was ALL in. He never wavered in his dedication to her and was always there to be exactly whatever she needed. I also found myself adoring the side characters and I can’t wait to read more from this series to learn about them!
