a short, easy read. not quite what i would personally dub as a "cozy murder mystery" but almost ~ i would definitely recommend & am on my way to check out the next book

There were some similarities between Sookie Stackhouse and Aurora Teahouse. I also though Harris patterned Aurora a tad too much like the stereotypical frumpy, dull librarian. However, this book wasn't all bad. I might go and read another in the series and see if it gets better.
I listened to the audio version of this and it was really well done. For some reason I seem to really enjoy Charlaine Harris' more non-romantic (aka pretty much anything besides Sookie Stackhouse, at least that's as far as I've observed so far) on audio much better than when I physically start reading them. The narrator inevitably adds a little something to the story that makes me much more interested as I usually find that straight up mysteries aren't really my thing. This book was definitely a classic murder mystery sort of story, but with twists that made my commute to work much more intriguing, although possibly a tad more dangerous than usual. Really shouldn't focus on something else while driving.... which says it all; I really enjoyed this book.
Um, was it just me or is the main character a bit racist and homophobic? I know Ms Harris isn't as her Midnight series has two very welcomed gay men and I don't remember anything like this in the Sookie Stackhouse or Harper Connelly series. I love the idea of a librarian as the heroine and will be willing to give the series one more try just in case I imagined the slights. I hope I did!
This was ok,not quite as enjoyable as I thought it would be.
I actually guessed this very early. Not that, that is bad thing. But it was a bit too early. Also too much romance.
Also the casual racism was a bit grating and the internalised misogyny is a bit problematic.
Could be better, could be worse. Gonna give the next one a shot.

The writing in this isn’t the best but I was pretty absorbed with the story! It’s my kind of thing. I’ll probably read more.
Loved it! I know many of Charlaine Harris' stories are similar and the heroines have similar traits, I've read the nay sayers reviews. I don't disagree, but guess what I'll continue to gobble them up!
If you've seen the Hallmark movies then you will need to rewrite your brain. Sally is older in the book and is Perry's mom. Phillip is Roe's 6 yo brother, not her cousin.
It was a quick read that kept you waiting for the next twist. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
