The height difference fetish is a pet peeve of mine, and Harris habitually referred to the excessive height difference between Roe and Robin. Also, the character seemed to dislike every other character in the book and they all disliked each other, too. It was very annoying. Ended up skimming a bit.
I was a big fan of the Hallmark Channel series based on these books, and so I figured I would check out the book series and see if it was something I was interested in picking up. To my dismay, I found that the book just wasn't that exciting. Multiple murders in a small town, should be fast paced and interesting, right? No. Honestly there was a lot of nothing in between the murders and the descriptions of them were lackluster. That particularly bothered me because the premise was that they were all modeled after a famous killing, something which many people would know and recognize. It was a good book to indulge in, but I didn't particularly enjoy the way the story was told.

Librarian, Aurora (Roe) Teagarden, is a member of the Real Murders Club. A club that looks at some of history's most notorious crimes, researches them, then presents their thoughts and ideas about the real stories. It is all fun and games until a murder starts stalking members of the club and copies the murders they have been studying. Roe suspects it is a member who is targeting other members, but who?
This was an interesting series starter. First of all, I love that the main character is a librarian, though her library is very different from the reality I experience every day at my library. Still--I love librarian fiction. The plotting was intricate, and well crafted, though the story did lag a bit at times. I dislike love triangles and this book starts one. Overall, this was a fun cozy mystery and I though it is not one of my favorites, I would consider reading more of the series.
Don't expect it to be similar to the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries version on HMM. They changed quite a bit from the original book.

Wow what a gem!! The graphic scenes reminded me that she also wrote the books for the True Blood series.
Aurora Teagarden loves her unsolved historical murder crimes. She has a library at home full of books to prove it. she might have a little less than her society friends. Shes a librarian and helps her mom with her apartments that she owns so she has access to all the apartments they own. Her parents are divorced, she has an adorable little brother who adores her, and she is single ready to mingle.
As I was enjoying this mystery you see Aurora try to figure out who did it along with her cop "friends". Since she is practically an expert she is great at finding clues and asking the right people the right questions. She is sweet so it wouldn't lead you to believe she has any enemies. I loved watching her try to solve the crime and be a victim all at once. She is one strong cookie.
Of course I am going to continue on with the series.

This was a fun read! It took me quite a while to make it through this short read because so many other books demanded me attention. LOL! Having finished it I'm now ready to go on to the next, because it really was an intriguing cozy mystery! The characters are great, their names are fabulous and I genuinely want to know what happens next. 🙂
Actual rating 3.5
I enjoyed this book, it was a fun and light hearted crime novel but I don't think I'll continue to read the other Aurora Teagarden novels.

My first foray into the cozy mystery genre AND my first Charlaine Harris book was a success! I was already familiar with the Aurora Teagarden mysteries from watching the adaptations on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, or so I thought. The book was darker and edgier than the movies and I was perfectly ok with that. I fluctuated between 4 or 5 stars then realized I already knew who the culprit was and I still raced through it. That's a 5 star book!
