Takedown Twenty

Janet Evanovich

This was a typical Stephanie Plum novel except for the fact that the man she is looking for is a mob boss who happens to be related to Morelli. On top of that, Stephanie helps Ranger discover who is killing a bunch of old ladies. Lula plays her usual amazing self as Stephanie's sidekick who goes out of her way to feed Kevin the giraffe. That's' right a giraffe in Trenton, New Jersey! This was a decently told story but it seems as if Evanovich is searching for things to have Stephanie deal with.

THIS.

One of my top Stephanie Plum books, if we're being honest. This one had me laughing out loud (more so than usual). I loved the Bingo scenes, anything Grandma Bella, Joe being Joe, the FREAKING Giraffe, and Lula brought her A-game. Also, Steph's bad luck was all over the place this book and I couldn't get enough of it!

My favorite interaction:

"Your grandmother gave me The Eye"
"Bummer"

Joe Morelli, everyone!

I haven't read a Stephanie Plum book in a long time, and I needed something to listen to while I crunched numbers at work, so I thought this would be a pretty fluffy choice. And yes, it's the same formulaic book as the rest, but also...kind of...rapey? So much of Ranger forcing kisses on Stephanie officially ended my interest in this series. Nope. Blech.

2.5 That being said, this series is my guilty little pleasure and it was exactly what I needed it to be!!!!

More like 3.5* This was good, but it was missing some of the humor I expect from the Stephanie Plum books. The giraffe was a nice touch. I cannot believe that Sunny was dumb enough to pick Grandma Mazur as one of his victims. The fear I used to have about Morelli's grandma and her evil eye has worn off. Overall, this was good if a little lack luster.

Just pick a guy already. We're 20 (I haven't read 21 yet, though it's been released) books in; how long can JE drag this out??

Loved it just the same as all the others, but I wish there was more Ranger and Morelli ♥

It's like visiting an old friend whenever I read a new Stephanie Plum. It's just a funny cozy mystery. She and Lula are trying to pick up bad guys. Lula has become obsessed with Kevin, the giraffe. Stephanie may try her hand at being a butcher. She's working with Ranger trying to solve the mystery of the string of old lady murders. And she may be ready to have the commitment talk with Joe. Will Grandma Mazur be the next victim? Lots of laughs, really fun.

Loveable characters: Yes

The last Stephanie Plum book that I read was....something 5. In the beginning the story was fun and exciting! And then the story became what it always is...I skipped from book 5 to book 20 and EVERYTHING IS THE SAME!! I listened to this book and I think 25% of it was things that I had read before. It was an entertaining listen, but the narrative seems the same.

If you made it to 5 and thought that maybe by 20 it would change...the answer is no.
