This book was so much better than the first book and I love the broken dynamic between Jack and Becky and how they, even though all the shit that has happened, not give up and not stop fighting. However I do have very few triggers when it comes to books. I read most of it. I don’t like it all and it can affect me bad mentally, but mostly I can handle it. But the few triggers I do have, are different types of sexual assaults. Specially against kids. So I do have to warn you that the theme is a big part of the book. If I knew it before I started the book, I would probably not have read it. Now however I am happy that I did because it is really a good book.

You can read a complete and a more detailed review at my blog.

A family was found gaged and tied up in their own house, but what's worse is that their young son is missing. While dealing with the consequences of his previous case, detective Jack Caffery takes it upon himself to solve this case, but the similarities with the disappearance of his little brother makes it difficult for him to distinguish the two cases.

Mo Hayder takes it even further with this book, it's darker, more gruesome and stomach turning. While it deals with heavy subjects, like pedophilia, it also depicts detailed scenes of violence. This book pretty much evokes general disgust, but it had me hooked from the first page. My twisted mind loves disturbing and dark thrillers, the more the better.

Jack Caffery is somehow even more unlikeable then before and I couldn't really feel for him or justify his actions, but I still didn't hate him. Rebecca is the one that stood out to me and I wish there was even more of her story. Characters in general feel real and complex.

Hayder is definitely a master of her craft and I'm planning to continue with this series and her other books too.
