I think many of us are familiar with the best selling nonfiction title, [b:Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind|23692271|Sapiens A Brief History of Humankind|Yuval Noah Harari|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1595674533l/23692271._SY75_.jpg|18962767], by the same author, and this is its graphic novel counterpart. I have not read the former and really enjoyed my time with the latter. The illustrations are detailed, beautifully colored, informative, and add to the experience. Anthropology was one of my majors in undergrad, and I loved revisiting those topics and also the newer research that’s been discovered/uncovered since I last studied. I think the graphic novel is a great crossover for both adults and younger readers in learning about a most fascinating topic.

Excellent re-telling of the evolution of HomoSapiens and their impact on the world
I feel like I would enjoy this more with all the meat and potatoes. As it was presented, most of the information I already knew. I also didn’t enjoy the subconscious bias of the graphic artist in the art style/whiteness of the mass majority of characters. I feel like this is a good intro to anyone who isn’t a history buff however as it makes the theories and most facts more easily digestible.

Ik heb het Sapiens boek nog niet gelezen (het staat redelijk achteraan op mijn lijstje). Dit leek mij echter aantrekkelijker om aan te beginnen. Geen idee wat het doelpubliek is maar ik vond het veel aangenamer om met beeld te lezen. Ook al interesseert het onderwerp niet echt, heb ik het gevoel dat ik er veel zaken van heb onthouden. De manier waarop het verhaal wordt verteld is ook slim door af te wisselen in conversaties met verschillende personages.
Er zijn wel een paar vreemde dingen aan waarvan ik niet goed weet wat ik er van vind. De schrijver heeft er duidelijk geen probleem mee om religie volledig af te doen als fictie. Ik ben zelf niet religieus dus ik ga ermee akkoord maar ik ga ervan uit dat vele die dit gaan lezen gelovig zijn en dus enorm op hun tenen getrapt zijn (de schrijver zelf is Israëlisch). Het lijkt soms alsof er iemand overtuigt moet worden door bv. een fictionele 'domme' man die in het publiek zit om foute argumenten te stellen zodat dat tegengesproken kan worden.

It was very child entry level communication and style of drawing. And a little boring. It seemed very similar to when school text book try to be cool or mimic other popular styles to trick you into learning. It was just more cringe worthy that interesting.
