A really fun walk through (pre)history!

I’ve had the book “Sapiens” on my to-read list for a long time and never really got to it. So, obviously, when the graphic novel was released, I figured this was the perfect opportunity to see what it’s all about with a quick read and fun images to go with it.

I was definitely not disappointed!

A very, very informative story of humankind going all the way back to before the start! I had some knowledge of the origins of Homo sapiens thanks to some classes back at University, but this was a great reminder of how things went down for the first group of hominids and their relatives. I also learnt a bunch of new things too.

I would greatly recommend this book to anybody curious about human beings and their origins. It can also be very educational for younger generations, whether it be read by a teenager or read to a young child with/by an adult.

I’m assuming more volumes will be coming since the title of this one says “volume 1”. I will be on the lookout for the next ones.

Sehr lehrreich und trotzdem sehr einfach zu verstehen.

This graphic adaptation of “Sapiens” is so approachable! This is Volume One, now onto Two!

3.5*
I would have preferred if the storytelling style was a bit more consistent, meaning leave out the comic books and tv shows and etcetera. Otherwise, it was great, and I learned a LOT of things I didn't know. I was raised, and educated, very anti evolution, so I learned about evolution and ancient history (because the world is totally only 4,000 years old!) On my own, so I definitely have and have had a lot of gaps, or just older info. This was a great way to fill in some of those gaps, easy to understand, and fun.

Doesn't really work as a graphic novel in my opinion.

- Very dry and boring
- Too much technical info
- Yet isn't that comprehensive on a whole
- Goes on and on forever to make a point
- Book is huge but text is so small and hard to read
- Tries too hard to be funny at times
- A significant portion of the 'info' is attributed to 'can't say for sure' or 'no way to know' - so what am I reading this for then?

What I liked:

- Makes solid argument for both sides
- Some interesting facts

I would rather read Horrible Histories.
