This was a lot of effort for little payoff: unlikeable characters, pacing issues, filler, a flimsy premise, and a thin plot make this mediocre, at best. This isn’t a thriller at all and I feel rather duped by the advertising campaign around this book.
Erin and Lori were both pretty vapid and far too much of the book was devoted to their respective inner monologues (whinging, pity parties, and Batman-complexes). The Lori/Felix thing was bizarre (I lOvE hIM… ugh!). The Lori/Sonny thing was ridiculous. I’m so tired of reading books about vapid woman with no discernible personality except for being baby-obsessed; this book took that trope to a whole new level that required a suspension of disbelief that I don’t have. Daniel and Mike were pure stereotypical villains with the depth of a puddle.
The plot was unrealistic and full of holes. I found it distracting how much of the book was surface-level and glossed over any real conflict. Like you expect me to believe they had access to fresh water, food, clothing, towels, and were all living rather comfortably on a deserted island? Instead of a gritty survival tale, we got a ridiculous romance, a “murder” , and confessions from the pilot abound… give me strength. The fact that Lori was alive this whole time was a cop-out and, again, full of plot holes.
The ending was what redeemed the book, in my opinion. Lori was a total cow and seeing Erin recognize that and eschew her drama in favour of a new adventure was satisfying.

This book was gripping from the very beginning. I also didn’t expect the ending. A brilliant read and certainly a book I would recommend.

I think the premise of the book is really interesting but for me, it just didn’t deliver. The build up was really slow with a couple of unnecessary chapters. I felt like they did not add anything to the overall story (e.g the scene where Erin came across the two sisters in the hotel).
The story did get better in the middle once the readers are introduced to the characters and the setting on the island.
However, the end fell quite flat for me. Maybe because it was a little unconventional and there is no happy ending, but I felt unsatisfied with the ending. It would have been better if Erin found her alive on the island or if Lori had indeed died there. While forming more predictable endings , either one of these would have left a more lasting impact. It might just be me though - I don’t enjoy inconsistent stories where people are dead one minute and then alive the next - at least not when the story is not developed properly to explain it.
In my opinion, too much time was spent on withholding information and not enough on developing the key areas of the story - the areas that needed explanations. As a result, the pacing of the story felt a little messed up with important parts feeling rushed while other areas were unnecessarily dragged out.
