There were moments when I had to set the book aside due to the anger I felt for what the main character was experiencing. It's a story where reality is more frightening than the supernatural. This book has truly captivated me!

What makes a good mystery/thriller for me is the lack of predictability, and I genuinely did not know where this story was going until the end. To classify this book as just a mystery or thriller would be incorrect, though. The author seamlessly weaves a supernatural mystery with the harrowing story of a 1950’s housewife desperate to be her own person in a world controlled by men, specifically her husband. I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery of it all, but what pushed me into 5-star territory was the emotion that this story elicited. I felt so deeply for the main character, especially as a woman, and I could picture myself in her place.

Overall, this was a great book that I would recommend to anyone who loves a good mystery or thriller and it comes with a bonus if you are a fan of historical fiction. Thank you to Lake Union Publishing for the e-ARC!
