Revisiting Roald Dahl as an adult makes me appreciate his untethered imagination anew. I get the sense that he’s respectful of children and therefore writes to them, not about them.

What an amazing book! Read this book in one day which is a big accomplishment for me. It was so much fun to read this book, so magical, I absolutely loved it.
If anything it makes me a bit sad that I didn't read this book as a kid, it's these sort of books that (I think) gets kids interested in reading.
Highest recommendation from me, looking forward to the sequel of which I know nothing about (whereas here I knew the story more or less completely thanks to the movies).

I don’t know how to rate a book like this. It is hilarious and wonderful and fantastic and imaginative. And it contains some deeeeeeep and blatant fatphobia, along with the extremely white-washed slavery element with the Oompa-Loompas. It is a product of its time.

Had to read this book for a uni course, and to be honest I wasn’t really sure I would like it because it is obviously a children’s book. However, I absolutely loved it. I had never read this story as a child, so I honestly didn’t know what it was about, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I love how it deals with some very important topics, in a way that also makes sense to children. I think it teaches some great lessons for kids, but I definitely feel like you can read it as an adult as well. It’s just extremely fun to read, and having been in a reading slump for quite a while now, I really needed a quick and easy read, so this was perfect. I might honestly have to read some more Roald Dahl books because this was just so much fun. I remember loving Matilda as a kid, so maybe I should read that one again.
