I loved this so much!! I loved Amari and May and Kade. I love how Amari and Kade are both hurt and growing. I love how Amari is determined to be a better mother than her own. I love sweet cinnamon roll Kade. And May is such a sweetheart!! Did I mention I loved this book??

The ending felt very rushed, and I found it odd that there were so few side characters. Nonetheless, a well-written Harlequin and the cover photo is to-die-for.

3 stars. I thought this was just okay. The romance wasn’t that great but I did really like the hero, Kade. Such a sweetheart. He’s very likable and charming. I liked how honest he was and how he wore his heart on his sleeve. The heroine, Amari, on the other hand was what brought down my enjoyment. She was incredibly bitchy for no reason and she was just so unpleasant and unlikable. She goes through no development that made me warm to her so I spent the whole book wanting a new heroine to arrive. I do like Therese Beharrie, but this one didn’t do it for me.

I was recently asked for a "cozy book of people falling in love at the holidays" and this is that book. It's cute, it's sweet, it's low angst, and it's short. It's also closed door - which is good for some people when looking for cozy (I'm not that person, but I enjoyed it anyway). Set in part in a small town in South Africa and in part in a kingdom off the coast of Africa, this book follows Amari - a single mother who owns a trinkets shop, trying to be a better mother than her own mother and heal from the wounds of a horrible ex - and Kade - a prince who is unsure about how we will do when he ascends the throne and who is taking a little break to find himself. And he finds himself in the trinkets shop of the lovely Amari. He falls hard and works hard to prove himself to Amari. What I absolutely loved was that Kade loved Mia, Amari's daughter, just as much as he loved Amari - he wanted the whole package - and I loved how he always bolstered Amari's abilities as a mom. I too would like to find a Prince Kade. So if you're looking for sweet and low stakes, this is it. Bonus points for taking place not in the US or England, extra bonus points for being two BIPOC leads. Holiday books are awfully monochromatic and I appreciated getting something different.

I, too, would like a prince to sweep my single ass self off to his castle, treat me like a princess, and give my daughter the best Christmas. Yes, please, I will have twelve of these.

Parking this under FallIntoRomBingo: Black Love for obvious reasons.

Even though I liked seeing Kade and Amari overcome their pasts, and the fact that Amari was dealing with everything as a single mother, I just felt distant from these characters. The writing was confusing in places, and though I appreciated the emotional moments, I just found that this book never really drew me in. Kade was sweet, Amari protective, and even though I loved that they both communicated, I just didn't see the love.

I liked but didn't love this one. Beautiful writer and it started off in typical Harlequin style. Loved the setting in southern Africa, the main characters and the premise. The second half dragged for me as it got too introspective and moved away from the fun action and dialog that kicked off the story.

It was sweet, but I wish we would have seen more of May. It feels like we got told about her, but didn’t see much of her ourselves. As she was a huge factor in Amari’s life and decision making, it would have been nice to get to know her more. Also, seeing Kade interact more with people outside of his parents and Amari would have been nice. The way it all read made it seem like he was very isolated, but surely he has advisors, friends, etc. We didn’t even get to see him interact much with his secretary and that could have been a really cute and solid relationship to see.
