I’m glad this made the Women’s Prize long list or I would never have picked it up. I appreciated how the structure shifted across perspectives from 3 different generations. It really showcased how so much is left unsaid in families and how that affects those around you. I also could see the echoes across generations well. The writing was a bit metaphor-heavy for my taste and the ending a bit too tidy . I still enjoyed and recommend this one.

I really enjoyed this, especially the descriptions of the characters' hair and the family dynamics over generation. I did think the later characters ended up being a bit flatter and more stereotyped.
