I was so excited to try a Lynsay Sand’s book and this was a super disappointment the first chapter was perfect and I’d really hoped they’d expand on that plot however majority of the book was written for Claray’s collection of animals, an unlikable hero with a very high sex drive and endless horseriding ventures with no real direction.

Wouldn’t recommend starting with this particular book.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an Arc in exchange for a review.

Claray MacFarlane is about to be forced to marry a cruel man when she is rescued by The Wolf, a mercenary named Conall. The Wolf brings Claray back to her father for her safety. It is revealed that Conall was named Bryson when he was born, and he is Claray's betrothed. His family was murdered by poison when he was a child, and he has been hiding his identity for his whole life. As Claray and Connall build a home together, they are faced with multiple murder attempt. Together, they must figure out who wants to harm them.

I enjoyed [a:Julie Garwood|6251|Julie Garwood|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1414607796p2/6251.jpg]'s romance books, so I was interested in reading this book. However, I found this book to be extremely disappointing. Claray felt like a naïve Snow White character with all of her scenes saving animals. I thought the sex scenes were boring, and I did not see any chemistry between Conall and Claray. The attackers motivations were laughable, and I just felt like nothing happened in the book. It was a struggle to finish this book. Fans of historical romance books can skip this one.

A kidnapped woman accepts the person kidnapping her “rescued” her on behalf of her father. Her rescuer was sent by her father, but you know, he didn’t offer any proof before she accepted it.

There was some weird commentary around men and women enjoying sex that made me feel a little ick. The main female character was very concerned about this and while I appreciate it played out for a reason later, and may have been historically accurate, it still felt ick.

I loved his indulgence with her around the animals she loved and felt the need to care for. Once he understood the importance of caring for the animals to her, he didn't try to dissuade her from collecting lost and hurting animals. He even came to care for them himself over the course of the book, respecting their connection to her.

I really loved getting to see Aulay find someone who loves him. With his scar, he doesn’t think much of himself and is still so upset about losing his brother. Jetta was the perfect person for him. Very cute story. It got slightly ridiculous toward the end, but still good.
