I did like this book especially after I love the film. But I found Tristan to be quite annoying a toxic at times. Also the film felt like it had a little more stake to it. Maybe would like to try the original graphic novel

Neil Gaiman, master of the fairy tale, who comprehends that fairy tales are for adults as well as children. The trick, of course, is to bring out the child while charming the adult and it is a very difficult trick indeed. In the acknowledgments, Gaiman gives a welcome nod to Lord Dunsany and James Branch Cabell. It would be wonderful if readers charmed by Stardust would seek out the stories of those gifted writers who seem to have vanished in the mist.

I wish I had read this before seeing the movie. I remembered some of the events hazily from the movie so the story was a bit jumpy for me. I really loved the writing, but just couldn't get into the story that well. Perhaps I need to read it again at some other time.

I endlessly love Niel Gaimens work and this one was definitely not a disappointment.
A quick and sweet fairy tale where a seemingly plain young man embarks on a fantastical journey through the magical Fae Lands.
Self-discovery and what is one's true purpose are major themes of the book.

This is such a quaint, beautiful piece of storytelling. I can imagine reading this book to my future children as I tuck them into bed. I did, however, find that it took me a bit to get into the story. As an adult reading the book for the first time, I found the decisions and actions of the characters to be nonsensical. But by the latter half and especially the final chapters of the book, I realized what this story is (from my perspective): a telling of what it’s like to transition from adolescence to adulthood (with a bit of magic thrown in).
