One of the problems i had was my own fault, I’ve watched the movie SO MANY times i couldn’t separate what i loved in the movie to what was going on in the book. But that being said, i love the book spent more time with my favorite character, Astrid.

Pure fun. I didn’t want it to end. If you are looking for some mind candy that it just plain enjoyable, this is your book. I plan on reading the series!
I read this as a guilty pleasure airplane book and ended up liking it a lot more than I'm proud of

It felt like I was watching Bling Empire - in book form!
That being said, here are some things I liked about the book,
1. This book is surprisingly educational. I learnt a lot about wealth in relation to countries, race & culture. The thing that peaked my interest was that old money vs new money in the book seem to be in relation to whether you're a mainlander or not. The old money culture shared inside the book is really interesting as well, the obsession with family names, not losing face, even the way people talk! It felt like I was in another universe.
2. The setting of the book. As a Malaysian, there's so little international best sellers that are set in Singapore and mention Malaysia. I felt weirdly proud of being able to understand all the chinese and malay used, the food they mentioned, all the roads and places without the little footnote at the bottom. It felt like a love letter to where I've lived and traveled to so often sprinkled with ridiculous rich trash
3. It was surprisingly funny? Thats all - I'm gonna be honest I genuinely didn't expect it to be funny.
Also FYI the book is WAY better than the movie if you're wondering. The movie changes a lot of things to make it this weird fairy tale romance of marrying into a wealthy family and the changes were dissapointing (ESPECIALLY the ones made for Astrid's story arc which I felt pretty much ruined her structural significance in the book)
Def going to pick up China Rich girlfriend when I have the chance :)

I’m really happy about Asian American representation and the movie Crazy Rich Asians and Constance Wu and Harry Shum Jr (potentially) and all, but...come on. The crazy rich Asians are downright delusional and disgusting one dimensional characters. Rachel and Nick are absolutely Mary Sues. I’m giving one star because you can’t give less than one star and another star for the Asian American perspective it offers. Widens the pool of Asian American literature - not everything has to be literary and deep; we can have soap opera repertoire too. Also because it was interesting to read about the different perspectives of Asian families who had done well for themselves - Constance’s mother, who became a successful real estate agent and has a wonderful relationship with her daughter, Peik Lin’s family being ultra wealthy but still not accepted, and so forth. Favorite character Charlie Wu!!!! Harry Shum Jr represent us in the next movie please!!!
