After everything Zélie, Tzain, and Amari had been through already in book one, book two slams the reader face first into even MORE loss, betrayal, and strife! 😔 Given this, I can understand why Adeyemi shows us these characters through a lens not reflecting their best selves, including how their recent traumas contributed to creating further instability and suspicion between relationships. I still liked the book with this in mind and am enjoying learning the greater depths of this beautiful magic system. Have a feeling the series conclusion is going to be just as if not more cataclysmic!

This book is just as incredible as the first. i laughed, i sobbed, it runs you through the emotional gauntlet but it’s stunning

Oh! This hurts! I'm hurting for Zelle and Tzain. I'm frustrated with Amari and Inan. My heart aches for Mama Agba, Roen and Mazeli . . . And I'm so afraid of what will happen now. If book 3 is going to start the way I think it will . . . This IS NOT the the ending I was expecting, and I officially understand why it took Tomi soooooo long to write this and how difficult it must of been to write.
