This was a DNF for me, 2.75. It feels blasphemous to rate anything Hocus Pocus this low. I love this movie and I guess I had such high hopes that Disney wouldn’t sell out like this. The first part is basically a play by play of the movie, which I did not mind! I loved it! If it were just that part then this would have been an easy 5.
But then there’s the sequel part and this is where I lost interest and became annoyed with the whole thing. There’s changes that were made that didn’t make sense to change. I guess I should have known since the front of the book didn’t want to even list an author. If nothing else, you can enjoy the atmosphere of going back to the wonderful world of Salem 🖤

This was the quickest read I've had in quite some time. I enjoyed it quite a bit, although there were parts that just had me rolling my eyes. I love this movie so it was nice to revisit it and it seems as though they left the ending open to another sequel. Max and Allison's daughter is pretty cool even if I had wished for a little more of Max and Allison.
Used to fulfill the Diverse Children’s Award winner category for Read Harder Challenge 2019. Cute story, and the narration was actually pretty good.

I was really excited for this and love the Sanderson sisters, but it just did not do it. Reading most of it felt like a chore. Maybe some things are best left alone.
The most frustrating thing about "Hocus Pocus & the All-New Sequel" is it is rather literal in it's titling. It is quite literally "Hocus Pocus" AND an all-new sequel. The first two hundred pages are a novelization of the events of the first Hocus Pocus. You don't get any new material with the Sanderson sisters until 300 pages in (though, a disclaimer, it's relatively large font, so we're talking James Patterson pages here).
That being said, this is ultimately a fun read once you get past that caveat. The sequel focuses on Poppy, the daughter of Max and Allison, the protagonists of the first book, as she and her friends must stop the Sanderson sisters when her family is sent to Hell - I think I can see why this wasn't the sequel they went with. And that's where the fun starts - comparing and contrasting this with the actual sequel released on Disney+. Overall, I think I like the Disney+ sequel a little better, but this book still has a lot going for it. There are much more nods and characters from the original - Max, Allison, Dani, Binx and Emily . . . even the bullies play a pivotal role. I also like the Sandersons' scheme in this a little better, without giving too much away. The only downside to this particular sequel is it starts a bit too late in the actual book.
