3.4 AVERAGE

First part of the book is essentially a word for word recreation of the movie. Nothing extra, doesn’t expand on what you already know. The sequel section is the same plot as the original, but now with the children of the original characters and a different spell to combat. It’s written on a level that is so far below current YA fiction. I would not recommend this book. Watch the movie.

I’ve grown up watching the Hocus Pocus movie every year around Halloween time, so when I heard about this book I HAD to read it ASAP! 😂 I really enjoyed the whimsical aspect to it, and I can’t wait for the second movie! ❤️📚

3.5⭐️ but rounded up.

I love Hocus Pocus (4⭐️) and I enjoyed the sequel some (3⭐️). While the sequel wasn’t bad, it just felt kinda forced. I don’t think it needed to be as long as it did, and to me the Sanderson sisters didn’t sound like themselves (from the original). It also ended on a minor cliffhanger so I’m wondering if there is going to be another?! I love the Sanderson sisters, but how many times are they going to die?

first book (hocus pocus): there is not very much to say about this book, because it is exactly like the movie. the dialogue, the events, the characters, everything.
most books that turn into movies have very different stories and sometimes even characters. this one doesn't.
i wish there was more background story about the sanderson sisters, so i could learn more about them. i'm not sure if we learn more about the sisters in the sequel, but i'm excited.
overall, the book is good, because at least it tries to explain max's point of view and reactions to everything, and how he feels about allison and dani. 3 stars.

second book (the all-new sequel): i just watched "hocus pocus 2" on disney+ and it is NOTHING like this sequel. why not? i think the sequel has a much better plot then the movie, it is much more fun. i loved this book and i'd give it a 4 stars for being long and for having wlw representation. also i loved how the sisters had a lot more participation in this book, by summoning all of the witches. the way the sanderson's mother treated them kinda made me sad. i really loved the ending and almost cried when max, allison and dani came back to earth, because i've known those characters since i was a kid in the hocus pocus movie. overall it was a good book.

since this book is 2 books in one, i rated it 3 stars, because i enjoyed the second book a lot more than the first one.

Hocus Pocus was spectacular, and I felt like I was watching the movie again, which is always a plus. But the sequel kind of dragged and was lackluster.

Hocus Pocus II is fun and entertaining!! You could of course read it anytime of year. We see more escapades of the witches and the townspeople. Just plain fun and so quick reading!!

The nostalgia is real - this book was just a cozy time. Was it perfect? No. Was it a damn good time? Yes.

Skip this book and watch the movie. The novelization portion was almost word-for-word the movie script with barely any extra color. The sequel had some cute moments, but was primarily filled with plot holes and confusion. The characters were shallow. Many of the conflicts were wrapped up in neat little bows without any explanation for how things were actually resolved. Not worth a read.

DID NOT FINISH

Alright reading this book I knew that it wouldn't even come close to being amazing as the movie is, at least to me. Having seen it every year since I was a four year old girl. So reading the first part, it wasn't movie good but it wasn't bad either, I enjoyed it. it had a few parts that weren't in the movie but it fitted for the book, which didn't bother me. So I'm giving the first part three stars. But once I started reading the second part, it doesn't have the same feel like the first part. Plus I don't know if it's the writing or what but I just can't get into it, I been trying for the last couple of days but I just can't. so I am DNF-ing the rest of this book.

First part of this book was basically the movie with more on what Max was thinking during the whole thing. While I don't think movie Max was really thinking the things book Max was I did like how much he believed in Allison and that she could do anything she set her mind to.

The second half is a sequel following Max and Allison's teen daughter Poppy. Her story was fun and the witches came back with a new plan. I honesty thought it was just going to be a repeat of the first one but with new characters so I was happily surprised. It totally ended with a cliffhanger though so is there going to be yet another sequel?
