3.4 AVERAGE

2.5 stars. I was really disappointed with this book. I’m not sure what I expected out of it but it just didn’t happen the way I assumed it would. The first 1/3 of the Book was the complete, word for word story line of the movie. I saw it in my head as I read and it was rather enjoyable.

The last portion of the story?? Awful. So juvenile and almost fake. The author tried so hard to make it more modern that it was cliche. Everything you’ve ever heard of on the news, tv, social media and more, from the last five years, was mentioned in this book. I just did not enjoy it. And I’m so disappointed. This was a book I was looking forward to reading and reminiscing about.

Oh wow, that was disappointing...
The first part was more or less ok, but seriously, movie scripts don't translate well into books.
The sequel though... Oh... that was super unnecessary. It was bad. Boring. Stupid and depressing.
Sometimes books and movies simply don't need sequels because they're perfect on their own. Sometimes, when they're getting a sequel and the another one and another one they start to resemble one of those shows with 18 seasons that even the die hard fand watch because they feel they should and not because they enjoy it.

Nostalgic and fun. I enjoyed this one. For my full review go to https://tiffyreads.wordpress.com/2018/10/09/book-review-hocus-pocus-the-all-new-sequel-by-a-w-jantha/

Loved!!! This book.

I loved this book as much as I loved the movie. The sequel was very interesting. I didnt think winifred could get more twisted and evil. The ending however left me with more questions.

Loved the first part which is the retelling of the Hocus Pocus movie. It’s exactly as I remember the movie with little bits of added information which is fun. The second part was just ok. Check this out if you are a fan of the movie and/or Halloween.

DNF - First half is just a novelization of the movie. I started getting bored. Read enough reviews about how bad the second part is that I decided not to waste my time.

I really enjoyed reading this book! It was just like the movie. The sequel was new and different. I loved the twists. I did not expect that ending though!!
adventurous medium-paced

Well here we are.
A Sequel long awaited but hardly needed. Lets see what it has in store shall we?

The entire first half of the book is actually Hocus Pocus the movie in book form. It follows the movie nearly word for word, a few omissions and a few additions (which I did appreciate).
Nothing much new here but as an avid movie fan it was enjoyable enough.

On to the sequel.

A trio of children decide to light the black flame candle use a Ouija board to commune with the spirits in the sisters' long abandoned home.

The basic theme is the same:

but this time we are not focused on eating children.
Nope.
We are bringing back all of the witches from Hell (along with mother)

We have clasic sarah

Mary
(who gets her own musical number...yes in a book...it didn't translate well)

and of course
Winifrid

The author stayed pretty true to their character but hammed it up pretty well too.

Effort was put into not only using POC but also putting a LGBTQ love interest into the mix.
It felt a bit forced ( I do acknowledge the fact that diversity is called for in literature and is finding its way into YA novels more and more but there is a way to do it well and then there are books where it was put in so they could be 'edgy'). I don't like it when it feels more like an after school special teaching us about inclusion and 'being who we are' despite the social norms. We even had a little speech from the 'bitch' of the school about no one understanding her. It is a YA novel though so I have to give it a bit of slack taking into account the intended audience.

Over all it was a fun read. Taking fans on a trip down memory lane while throwing them a bit more of the Sisters to savor.
It wasn't an amazing work of literature but something that avid fans will enjoy.
