I read this book to fulfill the goal read a book in the season it's set in. Just in time for Halloween, I finished this book. I really enjoyed the first part. i loved the movie and this just made me that much more excited to see it. I'm not sure about the second part. I liked the first chapter because i got to find out what happened to the main characters of the movie however in my opinion the rest of the book was just medicore. It was a decent enough story just not compared to the classic movie.
Did a re-read (and first time listen) to the first story of the book, and once again enjoyed it! The All New Sequel is just not my jam.
I really loved this book both parts of it I for one do not care if part 2 was like fanfiction because after I love fanfiction and I read it all the time. I really loved the characters especially Poppy and Isabella they were so well written and I loved how they confessed to each other and kissed. I really loved the story the novelization of Hocus Pocus and the sequel were both well written I loved all aspects of each story. So overall I loved this book and really want more based on that ending.
Definitely a great move on Disney's part to make some money. But wow was this a bummer. What annoyed me the most was the emphasis on words. There's no need to make every third word italics to show me you mean that word.
Writing was simplistic so it is a great read for young kids. Just nostalgic for me but I'd let my nieces read it.

I was so excited to read this one! I initially assumed the whole book was the sequel but it turns out the first half is the first movie. I didn’t mind reading the first part though it was nice even though I knew the story.
I was initially worried it would be aimed at young kids but it actually was pitched for most age groups so I enjoyed the reading.
The sequel was brilliant, I loved the modern themes it took on and found it to be very inclusive too in terms of race and sexuality which was a very important change to the first part set in the 90’s.
It kept me interested throughout. It was a bit descriptive in parts but I didn’t mind too much. I never read kids/YA books but I am so glad I did read this one and I can’t wait for the movie.
Highly recommend!

The novelization of the original movie dragged, and it was not at all as charming and funny as the movie itself (no surprise there). The sequel was okay. The best part was the cute f/f romance.
This rating reflects the sequel, not the first story which is a novelization of the film.
I hated pretty much everything about the sequel, aside from a boring plot and a cast of new yet wholly forgettable characters, it failed to capture the whimsy and humor of the movie. It had me wondering if the author even saw the movie, they had the Sanderson sisters speaking like Dr. Seuss characters. In fact, none of the returning characters sounded or acted much like their film counterparts.
The additions to the Sanderson mythos were cringe inducing and unnecessary. The tone of the book was also odd, who was the intended audience? It seems like this was geared towards middle schoolers which doesn't make a lot of sense to me since the movie is fun for all ages, but certainly has a more adult following now. Um no. This perfectly illustrates the problem with the overall writing of this book. It had no humor and took itself way too seriously.
Of course, in general I hate sequels with large time gaps that take place in current year. I don't want a story about Max's daughter. So the concept already had me tapping out.

I really really really hated the forced feel sorry for the bully, Jay, because Max was a asshole for leaving him in the cage.Of course, in general I hate sequels with large time gaps that take place in current year. Overall I enjoyed both stories. The first one reads just like the movie. The sequel really makes me excited for the movie to come out next year, really just to see Sarah Jessica Parker riding a roomba in the sky. My 2 biggest issues with the sequel are how quickly the principal and Max glided over Max leaving him hanging (considering the trauma and the way that bled into his relationship with his daughter) and the fact that they hinted at Mary's unhappiness with how Winnie treats her, but didn't do anything about it.

The film Hocus Pocus is a classic and one of my all-time favorite films. That being said the first part of this book is a retelling of the movie in novel form which I enjoyed immensely! Part two is a sequel set 25 years in the future which features many of the same beloved characters and some new ones as well. It was pretty entertaining, but it didn't really live up to the original. Then again I wasn't really expecting it to. However the ending of the sequel was very intriguing and leaves it open for a third installment which I would be interested in reading. Overall this was a nostalgic and delightfully wicked romp that did work it's magic on me. I hope that another story is in the works.
