Sooo good! I struggled for a bit, thinking whether or not to give this book 4 or 5 stars. Ultimately I decided on 5! I can’t deny the incredible nostalgia it gave me. Bringing my childhood love back to life with a new story. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who was a huge fan of the original. I also recommend this book to those of you not sure if you even want to watch the movie. They revisit the original in this book, so it’s quite easy to catch up :)

I wish I could rate part 1 and part 2 separately

Part 1 was like revisiting an old friend.
Part 2 I have nothing nice to say so I’m gonna just leave it at that.

The Sanderson sisters are back! This brings the classic movie Hocus Pocus to life and includes an all new sequel. Magic, witches and Halloween tricks are all in abundance on these tales of two Halloween nights separated by 25 years.

Hocus Pocus had a good nostalgia feeling, but the story itself didn't really add anything for me. It was enjoyable, but I don't feel like I know the characters any better than from the movie. Though I do want to rewatch the movie now.

The sequel stars Max & Allison's daughter, Poppy and two of her friends, Travis and Isabella. I actually enjoyed the sequel a lot more than the original which surprised me. In the sequel, Poppy doesn't believe that her parents and aunt faced down the real Sanderson sisters. Until she and her friends accidentally summon them from hell in exchange for Max, Allison and Dani. I felt like the sequel was much darker compared to the original. There's something about the soul exchange that felt more sinister than just eating children.

I also liked the addition of Elizabeth Sanderson and her story to the mix. She definitely brought in an added tension to the whole issue of are witches good or evil? In both stories, there is something I didn't quite like about the resolution. They both felt so easy and like the characters didn't sacrifice anything. But overall, both stories were enjoyable and I enjoyed the modern additions to the sequel.

The "epilogue" (last chapter) is what took it from 5 stars to 4. In three pages it sets up for another sequel but does so in a way that makes no sense with the rest of the book. Obviously the first half of the book is a retelling of the original Hocus Pocus film, the second half is the sequel which follows the child of the original main characters. It is a little silly, but a fun read overall. Exactly what I expected honestly, matches the tone of the movie.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays! My all time favorite movie to watch around now is Hocus Pocus. I was so excited when I saw this new book had come out, I knew I had to read it.

I love the sequel and the new adventures they had to go through. The sequel was from Max and Allison’s daughters POV. 25 years later and the Sanderson Sisters are back, and this time make it their mission to stay. Poppy and her friends are going to have to work extra hard to send the sisters back from where they came from!

If you’re a Hocus Pocus fan I highly suggest this book! I love the original book so much, but I genuinely loved the sequel too.

You have no idea how excited I was to see that not only was Hocus Pocus being made into a novel, but also learning there was going to be a sequel. Hocus Pocus is still one of my all time favorite Halloween movies. I watch it every single year in October. I know I am not the only one who loves belting out "I've put a spell on you!" And Thackery Binx is one of my favorite feline characters ever! So to find out I was going to get to relive Hocus Pocus in novel form, I was all in! And I am happy to report that this book did not disappoint.

Hocus Pocus and the All New Sequel is split into two parts. Part one is the movie we all know and love in novel form. And Part two is the all new sequel, set 25 years in the future. Because I already have such an attachment to characters and story of the original Hocus Pocus, part one was definitely my favorite part of the story. I loved revisiting my old friends and the author did a fantastic job staying true to the movie. I felt the Sanderson sisters come to life. I think anyone who is a fan of Hocus Pocus will really love Part one of the Novel.

Part two of the novel, follows Poppy, who is Max and Allison's seventeen-year-old daughter. It was cool that we got to meet Poppy and her friends, and her story had a very similar vibe to the original. I would love to see the sequel made into a tv mini series or movie. I feel like that would be so much fun. I think my heart will always be with the original, but I really liked meeting a new generation of characters as well. And I definitely would love to see more from the Sanderson sisters in the future. Overall, both part one and the new sequel in part two were really fun reads. I can't wait to pass these along to some friends for Halloween reading!

This book was so nostalgic. I love 90s family Halloween movies and you can definitely get the essence of the movie through the book. I also loved the representation in this book; it was super unexpected and welcome.

This book was super fun to read for Halloween. The second part had good nods to the original, but at times just felt like the same story. At times the dialogue felt forced to make the characters sound like Gen Z’ers, but I mean this book is definitely written for a younger audience so I get it. Overall, this book is, at it’s core, what it’s supposed to be.

If you can’t get enough of the Hocus Pocus movie, this is probably for you!
