First and foremost, find and check the TWs. This story starts out rather dark and I was certainly not expecting it.
But it quickly evolves into such an incredible slow burn love story centered around healing, acceptance, and finding those to call family. Vel and Cae were so incredibly sweet and adorable and I am so excited there is a sequel to spend a bit more time with these two.
But beyond the endearing love story and phenomenal cast of characters, this story also has exceptional political intrigue and a mystery that kept me guessing from the get go.
Overall, while there were tiny picadilloes that I felt could have been portrayed better or ironed out more, I believe this story did exactly what it set out to do and did it well. Very excited to not only pick up book two, but also check out more books by this author.

This book reminds me of the Goblin Emperor, it has a similar theme of somebody being dropped in an alien environment and succeeding through kindness and empathy.
