“The opposite of faith isn’t doubt. The opposite of faith is certainty.”
Reasons why I read this book:
1. That gorgeous thing is called a book cover. I loved it.
2. I was still in a reading slump after finishing the Illuminae files for the second time, so I was in the mood to continue reading about space adventures.
3. I was intrigued because we have a “mech” -a robot, basically- in here. And by the sounds of the synopsis, it sounded like we were going to explore some great topics in the book: What means being human? What does it mean to have a soul? And if/when AI gets more advanced, can they become or develop human traits?
4. I loveeee books, where you can read about humanity, and how it has evolved and discovered/conquered new planets in galaxies far far away from the Milky Way.
Reasons why I loved this book:
1. Those beautiful descriptions of the universe, galaxies, planets, and constellations. I loved to let my imagination fly.
2. The writing was great: the plot was fast-paced but in the right way. Just the right amount of details, and also humor, romance, and action. The romance isn’t overpowering and those action scenes are awesome.
3. As always, the characters: Abel was an amazing character. Going through how he evolved in this novel from the very beginning to the ending, it was legen-wait for it-dary! Noemi doesn’t stay behind: she is a strong character and I liked the way Claudia showed her struggle with her religion, her beliefs of doing the right thing, and her questioning everything she has been taught. In summary: I loved how they deal with their fears, beliefs, and thoughts.
4. Again, those deep and meaningful topics: free will, how much power can a person have over another, or even over something; religion, the real meaning of being human, and everything that comes with it.
I can’t believe I waited to read this book. Random thought: I need to finish her Firebird trilogy. But first, I’ll finish this one. It managed to hook me from the start and I believe it going to become one of my favorites.
5 and more staaaars! ✨

Revue complète sur le blog: Defy the Stars
An enjoyable read but nothing revolutionary.
I think Claudia Gray did a good job with the relationship between the main characters, I liked them more than the ones from A Thousand Pieces of You. It was interesting to have a mech's point of view and to see how he evolves and develops consciousness.
However, the world-building was lacking and the plot was quite predictable and basic.
More action would have been a good addition too.

Alright so I LOVED this book! I genuinely wasn’t expecting to love it so much. My friend recommended it to me a year ago, i dont really like YA especially when they are barely 18 years old so it took me a while to actually start it. But when i started it, everything was so good i was upset i didnt start it sooner.
Its a sci-fi and shoutout to that author for making me want to read more sci-fi.
The premise of the book is amazing and the way the author sets the pace and the description is perfect, almost felt like i was there. I have an idea of how the ship is built and made and its so rare for me to actually be able to imagine everything down to the planets.
Now it was quite fast paced which was so nice especially for a book thats 500 pages. I didn’t feel like it was that amount of pages compared to some 200 pages book that felt like going on forever and ever. I loved so many of the characters, especially the one they’d encounter on each planet.
Also don’t get me started on the slowburn, this was so well made i fell in love abel a thousands times while reading.
Anyway, will read the sequels. And im upset at myself for not listening to cata sooner.

Honestly, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. Dual POV is not usually my thing. But I loved reading about Abel's evolution, both through his and Noemi's eyes. He really steals the show.
I never really get into sci-fi type books, it never really has been a genre I enjoyed. Claudia Gray had me with this one though, I read this in two days. I was hooked after just a few chapters. You have you two MC’s, Noemi and Abel. Noemi is a human from Genesis, Abel is a mech from Earth.
Earth is running out of resources and trying to colonize to other planets. Genesis is one of the few planets with enough resources and clean air to breathe and Earth is trying to take it from them. Noemi is part of a crew that is willing to sacrifice their lives by flying into the gate and essentially blowing themselves up. Giving Genesis time to regain military strength to defend Genesis from Earths forces.
The writing in this book is dual perspective, but you never get lost in it or confused with the story. You can easily follow along there incredible j journey of trying to save Genesis.
I really enjoyed this book and i found out it will be a series. I can not wait to see where the story goes and how this journey end. I have never read any Claudia Gray books, but I will definitely be checking out her other novels.

I enjoyed the story a lot more than I thought I would. I can't wait to read the next book!
I found this to be an intriguing sci-fi book. I love it when I find a well written book that jumps between character perspectives. I really look forward to seeing where the story goes. There is a lot happening with the different worlds and populations!
Title : Defy the stars by Claudia Gray (constellation #1)
Rating : ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Genre : Sci-fi, ya, space opera, romance
The book is told from dual POV. Noemi Vidal, a soldier sworn to protect her planet, Genesis. She’s willing to risk anything—including her own life. To their enemies on Earth, she’s a rebel.
Abel, a machine, abandoned in space for years, utterly alone, has advanced programming that’s begun to evolve. He wants only to protect his creator, and to be free. To the people of Genesis, he’s an abomination.
This book was so much better than I imagined! The characters started off as somewhat unlikable but developed so much that midway through the book I was terrified of something happening to them. (I was literally praying for them to get through. 😄)
There are considerably few characters but all of them have different personalities and I ended up caring for most of them. Noemi and Abel are enemies in an interstellar war, forced by chance to work together as they embark on a daring journey through the stars. As they travel through the galaxy from planet to planet like going from city to city, there's a lot of excitement and even more at stake.
Highly recommend to the fans of sci-fi, space books, stars, slow burn romance, emotional ups and downs, friendship and epic adventure (and awesome writing).
Bonus point : no love triangle.
