With more freedom from the framing narrative revolving around Obama's inauguration, book 2 of this trilogy is even more powerful and effective than the first. An absolute and inspiring necessity that goes into much more detail than you likely got in your high school unit on the Civil Rights Movement.
Wow... Just, wow... Definitely a series that should be required reading...

Even better then volume 1, I think this one has clearer individuals to point to opposing integration, such as Bull Connor, which lend themselves to better overall narrative.
This volume also does a clearer job highlighting the horrific opposition peaceful protesters faced, with Bull Connor's actions standing out as particularly horrifying.
A great continuation of March, which had me immediately starting volume 3.

Part of the reason I think graphic novels are so important as a type of literacy is because of how heavily they rely on visuals. It's one thing to read about the Freedom Riders and what happened in Birmingham and Montgomery in your text books, but it is another thing entirely to see the violence and hatred illustrated, plain as day, there on the page. I would highly, highly recommended these graphic novels as learning tools for high schoolers. Lewis's story is so important.
