Immortal by Morning by Lynsay Sands is a third person dual-POV paranormal romance continuation of the Argeneau series. Crispin works as a detective in Canada in a precinct full of other immortals. When he and his partner get a call to investigate a skeleton found in someone's yard, the last thing he expects is to meet his life mate, Abril, who is taking care of her boss’s dog. But someone is watching Abril and threatens her safety as Crispin tries to think of a way to explain what is happening between them.

I have not read any of the books in this series before this one. I am familiar with paranormal romance by Krelsey Cole and Gina Showalter, though, and this falls fairly neatly into my expectations of the paranormal romance subgenre. There's hints of danger and horror on top of the romance as well as life mates and immediately knowing who that person is after meeting them. It's roughly a four on the spice scale as the spicy hits are threaded throughout the entire book.

The lore here is sort of like vampires but not quite. We do get a full explanation about halfway through the book for how immortals came to be, exactly how and how not they are different from vampires, and the reason life mates are even a thing. As someone who has not read any book in the series before, I found this to be extremely helpful, but I can understand how it might be frustrating to have it all laid out for several pages for long time readers of this series.

Crispin and Abril’s relationship is contracted by Abril using a lot of slang and talking about pop culture, something Crispin isn't super familiar with, and Crispin having a close relationship with his family while Abril is fairly estranged from her parents and siblings. There's a lot for them to learn from each other even though Crispin is 2900 years old and has seen a lot of what humanity has done. There is also the high heat aspects of their relationship that comes in waves as they also try to get to know each other on a more emotional level

Content warning for depictions of sexual assault and mentions of child death

I would recommend this to fans of twists on vampire lore and readers of paranormal romance who want a lot of spice very quickly

I can’t help but rate this 5⭐️ since The Argeneau is my comfort / nostalgic read. I have loved every single one of these books.

If you are looking for a slow burn this series is not for you. Because of the Nanos most of the couples are very Insta love because of the life mate thing.

The plot was good and I was really invested into the plot and finding out who had put the bodies into Gina’s yard.

I love that everyone was helping Crispin try and woo Avril even know there was a active murder investigation going on 😅 and it’s always a joy when Lucian’s cranky butt gets dragged in.

My only thing is I wish we have had gotten some closure with Abrils family issues. It was mentioned but never resolved.

Every time I finish the most recent book in this series, I feel like I'm temporarily leaving behind a group of people I've known for years.

Book 37 in the Argeneau series, Immortal by Morning, is the most recent book in the series. Abril is housesitting for her boss and discovers a body buried in the yard while out walking the dog. Crispin, an Immortal Enforcer, is currently working as a homicide detective and is assigned the case. In the midst of the investigation, Crispin realizes Abril is his life mate and there might be a rogue lurking in the shadows.

The difference in how vampires came to be and their weakness and abilities makes these books lighter than other PNR vampire books I've read, but there are still moments of danger. Since Immortals essentially have fated mates, this book is absolutely instant lust/love which helps avoid the dreaded 3rd act breakup trope that I don't really care for in a lot of romance novels. While this is an ongoing series, the books stand alone, the romance and conflict specific to the book are fully resolved, and obviously since I've read through the series multiple times, the world is one I want to visit again.

This series is one of my comfort reads and has been since I first met the Argeneau family back in 2004 or so. When I find a series I enjoy, I go back and re-read all the books from the beginning before shortly before a new one comes out. At this point, I've read some of the books in the series over 30 times and still enjoy them as much as I did the first time. I'm looking forward to future books in this world so I can start the journey all over again.

Thank you, Avon and Harper Voyager publishing, for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All thoughts and options are my own.

This was such a great book. I forgot how much I enjoy Lynsay Sands writing. The mystery of the story was an interesting one as well as keeping you in suspense waiting to see what would happen. The fact that then you add in vampires and life partners and humans just made it all the more suspenseful. The spice is spicy, the relationship hot and heavy as well as entertaining. The ending was really good and I can't wait to see what happens next.

I have been a fan of this series for years, but hadn't read the last several books before this one came up on NetGalley. I was happy to be approved to read it, and looked forward to becoming reacquainted with the characters that I enjoyed so much.

One of the things I like best about the series is that you know there's going to be a HEA. These are quick, light reads, perfect for escaping from reality for a short time, and usually advance the world building around the enormous Argeneau family.

This particular story, of Crispin and Abril felt a little rushed to me, and I tried to read it as though I'd never read any of the other books, as if I were just being introduced to the series. I like Crispin, having seen him appear in other books in the series, and was happy to see he found his life mate. I'm not a huge Abril fan, but can't put my finger on just why that is. I loved the dog, Lilith. ;)

I have to admit that if this were the first book I'd read in the series, I probably wouldn't go back to the beginning. The mystery of the bodies in the garden was good. Crispin's stilted manner of speech was not. He's been around almost 3,000 years, and has modernized enough to drive, use electronics, etc., but can't form a contraction? Annoying. The explanation of the origins of Immortals was necessary, but again stilted, and felt like it took up too many pages.

In short, it's readable, fun, sexy escapism. A favorite character got their HEA, we saw some old friends, and solved a mystery.

Thank you, NetGalley, for allowing me to read this ARC
