Definitely one of the better LitRpg books. was a fun ride to read. Be warned there are some erotic scenes in it. Liked the main character and also the sidekicks are fun.
All over a feel good story with not very much drama. Exactly the right choice for winding down after work.

I enjoyed the first half of the book. It showed promise focusing on a strong lead character with an antihero's morality. But for me, it went downhill after that.

I'm not a fan of harem stories and their associated misogynistic tropes. So I was disappointed to see the story veer into this style, despite no mention of harem features in the book's blurb. If you don't mind this sort of thing, it's kept pretty tasteful here. Seamus does describe every woman he meets in terms of their sexual attributes, but he still seems to act with respect.

However, the plot comes to a grinding halt once this change takes place. Party quest, sell stuff, buy stuff, repeat. It's not till the end of the book that one of the two big reveals is made, although it came as no surprise. The second reveal, Fuzz-ball's identity, must have to wait for book two... for those that can't already guess.

Why is so much LitRPG so bad? It's such a good story idea, but the genre is packed full of stories that fall short. (Maybe it's like furry books -- furries are just so happy to have any books about that subject, they'll buy them even if they're not that good.)

This book was better than LitRPG average, but that does not mean it was good. As with all books of this type, the outside-of-the-game start of the book was awful. Some medical professional decides that they'll let coma patients live in VR video games, but they have to test that first, so they take a man in prison and let him live in a game... Blah blah, same as all LitRPG books, just need [whatever] setup to get real people to live in games.

This book was somewhat better than other LitRPG books in that the main character wasn't handed everything off the bat. He was handed a lot, but not everything. Female characters, PC and NPCs, all threw themselves at him for not one single reason that I could see, which got highly annoyed after a while, and was the final straw that made me stop reading it.

The dialogue was just awful, completely unrealistic.

The video game was World of Warcraft, not a single guess or doubt. Just very minor changes made from the game, like the game's main city Stormwind was changed to Stormguard. But the NPCs acted exactly the same... no doubt at all he was writing about WoW.

I enjoyed the video game part of it, but everything else was a big miss for me. Stopped reading at 74%.

Well, that took a direction I wasn't expecting, for quite a long time. I went into this book hoping for a good LitRPG series and it is good, not great but good. But about 60% in, it became more about sex than about the game. Now, since I like sex, I liked this turn of events and I particularly liked the 2nd shower scene. Very nice. But, it was a lot of sex, which again, nothing wrong with, I just was looking for more game stuff.

The game stuff was repetitive, they kept going back to the same places killing the same things, and since there had been a beta, they knew what to do each time in each place. That got a little dull, I wanted something new.

But, overall I liked the gaming and the sex. In the next book I hope the sex is just here and there, rather than a focus and I hope that they go more places and actually have to figure out what to do.

If you like the following, you will enjoy this book:
1) Anime (Maid Cafe/Harem Stories)
2) LitRPG
3) League of Legends

Peter Berkrot was the narrator for this book and he did a great job. I really enjoyed the way he brought the story alive with his skills. I added him to my list of narrators that I like.

The opening for [b:Gamer for Life|35852699|Gamer for Life (Alpha World, #1)|Daniel Schinhofen|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1501382404s/35852699.jpg|55524073] definitely caught my interest. It wasn't like the other LitRPG books I've read and I really wanted to know more about the main character, Seamus. He used to be a cop, and he's in jail for murder. He's given a chance to join the beta testing for a new virtual reality MMORPG game called Alpha World. The company needs to test out the viability of long term immersion and subsequent affects on users. He jumped at the chance and what it may mean for people with disabilities.

The rest of the story about Alpha World, game play mechanics and the way Alburet/Seamus changes the game with his choices and interactions. Overall, there's too many pages taken up with game stats and the farming necessary to level up. I have to admit the anime harem angle caught me somewhat off guard. Once that was established, the whole story felt like an anime story on print. It all fits the tropes that I've watched in many different anime series.

Alpha World is a male fantasy about living the life of an anime character. The series with the average guy who ends up having a horde of girls interested in him. That said, I'm currently reading book two because I want to see if there will be more revealed about Seamus' life before Alpha World. I have a few hunches on where the story will go and I want to see if I'm right. If one of my hunches ends up being correct, that's all I need and I'll be satisfied with that as the end of the series for me.

So, this was an interesting read. The MC is a good guy that ended up in a real crappy situation. I like the fact that he's pretty solid character. He has his moment, but for the most part, he's pretty chill. The person who is awesome is the IMP. THE IMP IS AWESOME. I WANT AN IMP! The Imp is like Mike from Monster Inc. No really, just a pervy best friend version of Mike from M.inc. I liked the way he stayed ribbing the MC the whole time. The comic relief was awesome. With that said, I do like the way the story ended. I'm looking forward to book two.

Fine RPG lit - gratuitous sex / sexual innuendo which I felt didn't add anything to the book. It was entertaining though.
