For being a comic this story touches on so many heavy topics. It's wonderful to see life through the eyes of an Iranian woman and all the struggles that went along with growing up and maturing that we as people experience all over the world.
This was a solid 4 star read and I appreciate the author's approach to something that can be sensitive.

Persépolis é uma historia de vida, tem pontos de contacto e pontos de difrenciação com a do leitor. Mas ao contrario de muita litratura moderna tem aquilo que falta em muitos livros, humanidade.

"I wish he were alive and in jail rather than dead and a hero. Those were her exact words to me."

The story is easily consumable, due to the graphic novel style and multi-dimensional main character of Marji. It is a wonderful way to learn about the Iranian Revolution from the eyes of a young girl growing up in it, and to experience secondhand her transition from young, innocent girl to a strong, intelligent young woman. I'm definitely interested to read the next Persepolis books, and continue along the path of Marji's discovery and growth.

This story has been stored in my memory like an old film. Black and white images; white noise-filled dialogues that scratch that unreachable itch in your brain; and a true story that makes you ponder on the world and its systems. Satrapi hooked me from the very beginning, she educated me, held my hand through her trauma, and gently eased me into her chaotic childhood. I feel like this memoir was meant to be a graphic novel.
I would recommend this book to everyone. It has everything.
